Beutiful frosty morning for my usual Boxing day walk to see the Mandarin ducks @ Longshaw estate (NT). 10-12 there this year but they would not come out into open water, prefering to stick among the branch's of trees dangling in the water

The Desert Lion king looks to expand his kingdom by assaulting the border 'Dragon' castle of the Chin.
The castle is a centre of trade for the region and the road to the gate doubles as a dry moat in times of siege.
The Desert Lions dig a trench to get them closer to the walls without exposing themselves to the deadly Chin crossbows. They pepper the defenders with ballista bolts while their heavy infantry attempt to gain access to the battlements via the ladders.
However, the Chin defenders are repelling any assaults and the king must reconsider his strategy.

Seagulls are the most common birds around us, I very rarely photograph them, simple reason just they are over presented with their crackling noise and disturbing proximity!!! Where we were sipping the cuppa my wife noticed why this fella was walking up and down in the short brisk and watching us, I nodded to my wife and captured a single shot of her beautiful cats walk on the beach ramp before she flaps her large wings away from us.

This afternoon I installed myself in the hide which was set up near the little old orchard we have behind our house. It was just over zero degrees (C) so I took all kinds of stuff to keep me warm. Touching the icy metal tripod was no fun! Brr.
Some time ago I bought a gadget; it's a pouch with bright colored liquid and in it floats a little metal coin-like sort of thing. When you click this, the liquid solidifies and the whole thing starts radiating warmth. I don't have a clue how it works (it doesn't glow in the dark, that's reassuring..) but feeling it in my cold hands was sóó good :-).
After a while it gently started snowing. You know, when it snows all the sounds seem to get muffled and I was totally happy in my little cocoon. When this Woodpecker decided to pay me a visit, while snow swirled all around him, I couldn't have been more happy in my little hide.
