Dreaming of Better Days in the Future and Thinking of Fond Memories from the Past.

Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular travel destination in Vietnam. The name Ha Long means "descending dragon".

The Bay, is known for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rain-forests. Junk boat tours and sea kayak expeditions take visitors past islands named for their shapes, including Stone Dog and Teapot islets.

Historical research surveys have shown the presence of prehistoric human beings in this area tens of thousands of years ago.

.. of those better and joyful days that will come ...

There will always be better days. That is because from time to time there are bad days.

Shrug your shoulders and go look for a better one.

Happy Fence Friday

Stop posting railings it upsets me.

When I glaze upon this surreal image I feel a yearning in my heart. A place where one would love to come home to. A simpler life surrounded by nature slowly unfolding her magic around you. You can just imagine walking down the gravel road smelling deeply the green grass and that special smell that only a freshly cut field can give off.

Welcome home.

Welcome 2021. We face an uphill battle, but we've got this. Oak Toad, a lovely little amphibian.

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours, or days.

All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear.

So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire.

The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won't matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.

It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.

Even your gender and skin colour will be irrelevant.

So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought but what you built; not what you got but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success but your significance.

What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage,

or sacrifice that enriched, empowered, or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence but your character.

What will matter is not how many people you knew but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone.

What will matter is not your memories but the memories of those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom, and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident.

It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice

Chose to live a life that matters.

I look but I don't venture inside. There is an overwhelming sadness as I see traces of everyday life. Empty jars, books thrown about, and the refrigerator door hangs open. An empty mug sits on a table. I'm sure that it once offered the comfort of a hot cup of tea.

I always wonder what stories these old homes hold. Mostly good, some bad. And of course there is the final story. It is the one I don't want to know. The one that left this house seeing better days.

There will always be brighter days ahead. Sometimes I get too focused on the now, and see only the darkness. Today for instance, the stock market is down; the Omicron variant is causing another winter Covid scare; the politics in Washington is rancorous; rumors of wars, rumors of this, rumors of that. And yet, brighter days will surely come again. Back in August of 2015, the sun was shining brightly on the Bean in Chicago. It may be dark outside now, but the sun will surely shine again.

I've been doing a different version of this shot every year as my last post of the year to go along with my New Years wishes...

Tonight, as always.... my wish for you... it's exactly the same each and every year...

"And you asked me what I want this year

And I try to make this kind and clear

Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

'Cause I don't need boxes wrapped in strings

And designer love and empty things

Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days "

Coal chute number 5 on Goole docks. This lift was designed to lift “Tom Pudding” boats loaded with coal or coke, the boat was then tilted and its load slid down the chute into waiting ships.

To many moves in this quilts life time, caught in a pinch point and tattered, handed down and still hanging around. It has seen better days as a quilt.

These are heartbreaking times, but you are not alone!

And if it sometimes feels like better days are out of reach,

they might be closer than we think...

How far can a Fargo go? After a foot of snow, it's back to the archives today. This old truck has seen better days but it's still an attention getter.
