Horseshoe Bend nr Page Arizona a few minutes before 7 am.

I took a vertirama at this bend in the Flint River, dubbed Sycamore Bend (I invented it!). These are so fun to do, having been introduced to them via an Outdoor Photographer assignment some years back. Just take your mobile phone, aim it in landscape mode, and do a panoramic at 1X. Start low and work your way up, like pasting a photograph! I was curious how it would go with this bend. The river goes on forever!

A bend in the Danube river, Upper Austria in autumn, the viewpoint is accessible by a 40 minute walking trail. Expensive parking that takes only coins below. At least the gasoline was cheaper than in Germany.

For the last 6 months or so I had been uploading photos chronologically, but from now on I will be mixing things up to add more variety to day to day uploads.

Continuing on with my little Wyoming adventure we find ourselves at the beautiful Oxbow Bend. After almost no sleep the night before, a 10 mile hike, and an unexpectedly cold night at the foothills of the Tetons I decided to get up early and catch the sunrise. I woke up about 30 minutes after my alarm went off and 15 minutes before sunrise. I jumped up, threw my clothes on and rushed out the door (of the tent) all while praying I'd have a halfway decent place to shoot without having to climb underneath someone's tripod. Fortunately, I was staying about 8 minutes from Oxbow Bend according to my GPS which means about 5 if you "forget" to look at your speedometer. As you can see I made it in time for the sunrise and I believe it's the best light I had the entire trip. I opted for the long exposure because I thought the softness of moving clouds would showcase the rigid mountain structure a bit better.

Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.

I stopped at the scenic Horseshoe Bend at Sunset. There's something mesmerizing about sitting at the edge and looking inside this time capsule. The Colorado river shaping it's way through like it has done for millions of years.

This is Horseshoe Bend/Canyon in Page Arizona taken during or May vacation. I wanted so bad to do a sunset here but the night before this shot it rained so hard that we ended up going to the movie theater instead. Then on Sunday after they told us that our Antelope Canyon tour was canceled due to flood waters in the canyon we headed to Horseshoe Bend to see if we could at least see this.

We got there and of course it was lightly raining...just enough to irritate you. Well we headed up to Horseshoe Bend along with about 100-200 other tourist hoping to stay dry long enough to get a couple good photos in. Well actually when we were just about to leave the sky opened up for about 10 minutes and the sun shined long enough for me to get a couple sunlit shots.

The sun set nicely. in the early afternoon I took a seat just outside the station of Assmannshausen where there is this nice bend to photograph trains coming from Rüdesheim.

Horseshoe Bend in Page at Dawn. Making the approximate 1km hike from the parking lot off the main highway, you could not imagine what awaits you over the hill. The view and expanse that opens up is stunning. The morning is a beautiful time to visit. Although the sun is at your back, the difference is you are in relative solitude. The afternoons at horseshoe bend are crowded with everyone fighting for that best spot, however, in the morning it was relatively calm. If you are afraid of heights getting a good perspective with the whole river in the shot will be difficult as it requires getting close to the edge. The steep drop off is impressive. You will need to bring the widest lens you own or in this case do a panorama. Paige is worth a stop for anyone in the area seeing it has two natural marvels with horseshoe bend and antelope canyon.

After a big snow storm last year I had good timing and caught a train coming round the bend.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

I first photographed this bend on 5th Nov 2020 and commented that I hoped it wouldn't drift down the bay too quickly as there was a tree just out of shot which would compromise my options. It is now just clearing the tree so fair game once more - the tree now being just out of shot to the on the other side. It is also a more mature, wider bend.

Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, United States. It is also referred to as the "east rim of the Grand Canyon." It is likely that the Colorado River will eventually cut through the neck of the bend, producing a natural bridge like those found at Natural Bridges National Monument. The river will then abandon Horseshoe Bend, leaving a cutoff meander resembling The Rincon further north.

This horseshoe bend is called 한반도 which translates to Korea peninsula. Took me quite a while to get it but I guess the middle part does look abit like Korea on the map if you stare long and hard enough 😂 in other news..

My best image of Horseshoe Bend...(FYI - you really need a wide angle lens to do this shot justice!) This panorama is a composition of 7 different shots. Can you see those tiny boats down there?

Getting here a little late in the morning presents a problem with busloads of tourists taking photos from the parking lot. Down by the river it was a little less crowded.

I took this photo back when you could find a little solitude there. I and two friends were the only ones there this night. Since then this location has turned into nothing less than a madhouse.

I had this place in my bucket list for some time. When my niece invited us to her wedding I seized the opportunity to come here. The plan worked out well with noon at Upper Antelope Canyon and sunset here. Couldn't be perfect!

This image is a panorama from 15 frames to show more of the rock around it.

You all have a wonderful weekend..

The clouds provided by a recently passed storm soften the light at the Horseshoe Bend which was created by the power of the Colorado River. The site is located near Page, AZ and is upstream of the Grand Canyon and shortly downstream of the the Glen Canyon Dam that forms Lake Powell. As with other sites, people endanger themselves by doing such things as sitting on the edge of the cliffs which rise about 1,000 ft above the river.

This is a different approach from my earlier 14 mm photo. Taken at 24 mm, I think that it brings the formation and the Colorado River closer and helps them dominate the photo. Also, the distant mountains and the storm appear closer. I used the close rocks to frame the photo, but kept them out of focus to draw more attention to the bend itself.
