Was crossing a boardwalk over a creek when I saw this bird. My first thought was that it was injured and couldn't fly. The air temperature was 90 F and I didn't think the bird would be resting on hot sun-baked wooden boards by choice. The boards were very hot to the touch. I was about to move the bird to what I thought would be a more comfortable spot when several other birds flew down from the trees and exhibited the same behavior. Most of the birds were the same species as this one (I don't know what it is), but there was at least one other type of bird also. They all folded their legs, spread their wings and flattened themselves against the hot wood. This has been going on for two days. They obviously have a purpose in their actions, but it sure looks strange to me. I don't know how they are not getting burned.

The creek runoff was causing a small rapids just before entering the ocean. This Mew Gull was "riding the rapids" repeatedly. I watched as this gull made at least 6 "rides" down the rapids. Was this something the gull did for "fun" or food or bath or _______?

Anonymous protest against the abusive behavior of the cult of scientology in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 12, 2009. Scientology perpetrates forced labor, child labor, slave wages, coerced abortions and a host of human rights abuses. There's no limit on what people can believe, but there is a limit on how people behave. It's called the law, and scientology has hidden by the religion excuse for too long.
I love the Fashion Royalty Erin doll. She has a serious attitude, but that's what makes her so cool.
1st photos ever (in the wild!) of this mega rare antpitta. We've been nailing it down for a year and learning about its behavior, seasonality and habitat...
amazing little bird!!
ENJOY!
These campaigns can often produce a prosocial acceptance of persecuted groups. Though sometimes they are simply ignored. Photo from www.mucklesandwich.wordpress.com
Since most of my shoes barely see the light of day due to my current geographical location being such a "Fashion Blah" my shoes still need love. So why not vacuum in style and feel sexy while doing so.
For my friend DJ-May you vacuum fabulously
This bird scraped out a shallow hollow before squatting down like this to rest. I have not seen this behavior prior. It reminded me of similar behavior documented for the Kangaroos of Australia.

Bogart gets walked on all the time. As he lounges on the couch, countless (well, seven) felines think nothing about walking across him to reach their destination. Cumin has even been known to make Bogart her destination as has Vidalia. Tonight, however, Cumin climbed deliberately onto Bogart's back and started pulling his fur with her teeth then ramming her face repeatedly into his neck, holding on with outstretched paw and claws to keep from rolling off our beloved boy. She smashed her face into his fur only to the close her mouth on a clump and yank, then quickly return to her full-body smash move. Kevin and I both just watched her do this over and over as Bogart stayed quietly curled up between the two of us on the couch (happy anniversary, dear, hee hee). Of course, I didn't have a camera handy, not even my phone. And I'm buried under Ariel, Miss Raven, and Gumbo. After a while, I finally asked Kevin to hand me his smartphone. As Kevin stretched out his hand, Cumin hopped off Bogart and the performance ended. Bogart tolerated the whole odd event in his amazing, uber tolerant manner. Why, Cumin, why?

The hit American boy band Mindless Behavior finished off their first tour of this country with their final concert before returning to America at Enfield Grammar School, as a guest of the Student Council. The band, a massive success in America, with over a million followers on twitter and a huge fan base on You Tube, were in England on a promotional tour.
As part of our links with the local community we invited both students from St Anne’s and Enfield County to attend. The band performed four hits off their debut album that is presently at number seven in the American Album chart, followed by a question and answer session and autograph signing. Over 400 boys and girls from the schools were chosen by their Heads of Year to see the band as a reward to recognise their excellent efforts and behaviour in the last few months.
Well done to everyone who helped organise this event particularly all Grammar Sixth Form prefects who gave up their time to help stage the event.

You never knew which split second might be the zigzag bolt dividing all that went before from everything that comes next.
African Pygmy Hedgehogs are cute little primitive mammals. Their defense is to roll into a tight ball, where all areas of their face and belly are covered. This makes them a very difficult animal for a predator to have for lunch. In fact, if Bandit was really upset, he would be in such a tight ball, each spike would be erect and I would not be able to hold him with my bare hands but have to use gloves! They also make huffing noises like hogs and can even make a loud pop or clicking noise to scare you. There is a myth that hedgehogs can throw spikes at you...not true.
