Taken in the Begonia House at the Wellington Botanical Gardens - I will be returning to get the correct names of all plants
This is the 'Little Begonia That Could'. First I got a leaf from a friend to propagate, got a nice little plant going, then tried to kill it, then saved some teeeeny leaves and here they are.
Begonia sp. (Begoniaceae). Voucher: Swenson et al. 1392. Vietnam, Vĩnh Phúc Province, Tam Dao National Park; along a trail to a tempel towards the Three Peaks, above Tam Dao town, alt. 990 masl (21.47333 105.63944). Swedish Museum of Natural History expedition to Vietnam 2013, sponsored by National Geographic Global Exploration Fund Northern Europe.
This ancient concrete planter is one of a pair. They stay in place, because they weigh more than I can lift. This one is filled with red wax begonias. We like these, because they like shade, they are very hardy, and they bloom all summer. The other planter has a wild variety of begonia that haven't bloomed yet.
