Beautiful dark velvety leaves

I grow this outside in the garden. But as cooler months approuch, even in sunny West Hollywood, I have taken cutttings of my more succulent garden begonias. This stem cutting rooted in three or four weeks in slighly moistened perlite in a gallon hocking jar (Target) under fluorescent lights. A leat cutting, rooting at the end of its long petiole is taking slighly longer.

I couldn't find much of interest in the Lamberton Conservatory yesterday except for the many flowers on this elegant begonia.

This species is also growing well in the garden.

I got this begonia from Laurel Hardware last spring. A strong grower, it is the mother of what I hope will be some interesting hybrids. The pollen, the fathers, came from several of my terrarium begonias.

Just a humble Begonia; a wax, or fibrous-rooted Begonia, I believe.

I took a photo of a beautiful plant at my mother-in-law's house - Begonia Rex.

Have a vibrant Thursday! x

I could swear those pesky snails did all that damage in one nights. Let's hope those organic, pet safe, pelets I've put out work as claimed.

That was pretty fast, two or three weeks from pollination.

Unidentified Begonia potted in my shade garden.

Monrovia begonia blossoms in one of my wife's flower gardens.

This begonia is in the perfect wind protected and bright shaded spot to allow it to actually thrive outdoors, but still needs heavy protection from slugs and snails. Probably best in pots on a sheltered porch, but it does well here with the house blocking a bit of rain, as well as the palm fronds above it.
