The genus name Begonia, coined by Charles Plumier, a French patron of botany, honors Michel Bégon, a former governor of the French colony of Haiti. This gorgeous cultivar of tuberous begonias was on display at the 2011 Chelsea Flower Show.

I did laugh when I enlarged this iPhone image to show of the Begonia bloom. Yes, there is a tiny snail boldy making its way top left. I did not see him when I took the image! His wicked ways were revealed with the enlargement and crop. He has been dispatched!
