"Beauty will save the world." --Dostoevsky
Hello Flickr fans! Excited for my Los Angeles Landscape gallery show in December! Taking a break from finishing the HDR landscapes and finishing some goddesses for my 45surf surfline instead. :) The gallery artist statement will begin with something like:
"In every photograph you can see both where the photographer was standing and what they were thinking. So it is that this collection tells the story of my epic journey as no words ever could. And more importantly, I hope that it serves to guide and inspire you along a hero's journey of your own making, owning all the glorious rewards of the risks of your own taking." --Johnny Ranger McCoy
Back to the goddesses for the moment:

All the Best on Your Epic Hero's Journey from Johnny Ranger McCoy & the HJM Goddesses! :)
I don't have the best flickr track record lately, but I've seen others do this and it might be a good place to start. So, 30 secrets in 30 days.
#1: I do not like starting things I can't finish. This pertains to everything. I hate that I have hundreds of photos on my hard drive and the last photos in my albums are from before Evan's first Christmas. But now I know why the number of photos in the albums of us kids growing up got smaller and smaller as time went on, parents just are too busy parenting to keep up. I love being on flickr, but it started feeling like a chore. I hate posting when I can't comment on others' streams, so I didn't. I started photography because I enjoyed doing it, it turned into something I wanted to make money with. I have, but not to the degree others do, and that made it frustrating and not fun anymore. So, now I'm back to square one. This isn't something I have to start with the purpose of finishing, this is just something I'm starting because I want to enjoy it. I hope that all falls under one secret....
I am hosting a friends Hens night tomorrow night so of course I had to make the Penis Cake!
This was the begining, I made a double size cake then cut it into a penis shape. I then cut it in half and put in a layer of jam (blooooooodddd) and put it back together!
"Algonquin" Pumpkins
This is only half of this variety, the rest are still out on the vine. I can only imagine how many more there could have been if not for this drought.

Every winter season, from Nov. to Jan., this peregrine falcon pair catches a fair number of grebes from the ocean. Today is the first time I saw Xena grabbed one in middle air, about 60 yards from the shoreline. When I got out of my car, I saw Xena flying over my head, in a hunting mode; as I quickly got my camera out from the back seat, I saw her grabbing the grebe in air. The grebe did not even try to evade the falcon. I think for one, grebe is a not a good flier; and Xena is so fast that the grebe did not have a chance to change course to escape. My shutter was set at 1/60 for yesterday evening's owl shoot, I had to quickly change it to 1/2000, did not even have time to change the iso, so the shots were so under exposed, I had to bump it up 3 stops in PP.
Ulises begins Believe with an awesome breach. He was huge!!! I think you can see Sumar swimming underwater too. DO NOT USE.

Bubba was due to visit the vet for his annual feline wellness exam, however, when I scheduled for October (when he was due) I mentioned he was having episodes so they told me to bring him in (this was on 9/27).
His episodes were seizures. They kept him the rest of this day and gave him IV Fluids as they weren't sure what was causing his seizures. He went back the next day and got more fluids.
I... I don't know how to explain this really.
I guess its sort of, a representation of age, maybe? I mean, she's a full grown adult, and the big fat paper texture kinda gives age, but she's also in the foetal position and being all ~hairless and baby like.
I don't know. Kinda reminds me of test tube babies, lmao.
Buuuuut yeah. The pose is in-game (the dance sphere people! use it moar!) which makes me chuffed... and.. the feet look like planks of wood but just ignore them :)
I think my muse might be coming back. Maybe.
Keeps on giving me the most obscure ideas, though.
OH RYAN:
I did it last night. I have a tendency to make stuff at silly O'clock in the morning, but I won't post it then.
And its like, 9am so its not that early, pmsl.
as seen from my kitchen on the 3rd floor (4th in N. America).
Uh oh, I now see how dirty my lens is (well, the UV filter sitting on it). Oh well, too late.

Here's looking into the maple sugaring evaporator firebox (it's a small 2x6).
Often we keep the fire so hot that the cast iron door turns cherry red! (see pic in comment below)
We finally have sugaring weather and the sap is running! Tonight we "sweetened" the pans with raw sap but didn't have enough to draw off any finished syrup. We had about 95 gallons of sap and used it all up.
The partitions in the back are the "drop flues" of the rear pan and are full of boiling sap.
Good sugarin' weather is coming so we'll be quite busy!
Will post more pics soon :)
Fall begins early in the Chilcotin. This is a photo of Mons Lake Road showing the beautiful fall colours in the Chilcotin.
The Rogue River is located in southwestern Oregon and flows 215 miles from Crater Lake to the Pacific Ocean. The 84 mile, Congressionally-designated "National Wild and Scenic" portion of the Rogue begins 7 miles west of Grants Pass and ends 11 miles east of Gold Beach.
The Rogue was one of the original eight rivers included in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968. The Rogue National Wild and Scenic River is surrounded by forested mountains and rugged boulder and rock-lined banks. One of the more fascinating footnotes offered by the Rogue River is the Zane Grey cabin which still stands today!
In the Winkle Bar section of the Wild Rogue, western writer Zane Grey bought the mining claim for this site from a prospector in 1926. Zane Grey died at the age of 67 in 1939. But his historic property has lived on. First it was purchased by the Haas family, long-time owners of Levi Straus. This transition of Grey's property seemed well-suited to the makers of denim overalls for the western pioneers of the 19th century. And though the Haas family built new homes on the property, they always maintained Zane Grey's cabin, welcoming intrepid visitors willing to run the Rogue or make the five-mile overland hike to reach this isolated property.
Then beginning in the 1970s, the BLM joined with the Haas family to share a management agreement and provide support for the land in a spirit of cooperation. And in 2005, when The Trust for Public Land notified the BLM that they intended to purchase the property from the Haas family, both organizations worked together to obtain these 32 acres. In 2008, the official transfer to the BLM took place.

One of the first patients we met in Angola, was an 11 year old boy suffering from hydrocephalus. His neurological functions were degrading quickly, so Dr. Foster decided it was necessary to implant a shunt in the boy's skull to relieve the intracranial pressure.
Here, the crew in the operating room is ready to begin the surgery. Everyone watches intently as Dr. Foster makes the initial incision around the boy's ear.
