Munich (German: München) [1] is the capital city of Bavaria. Within the city limits, Munich has a population of more than 1.3 million, making it the third most populous city in Germany. The Munich metropolitan region including cities like Augsburg or Ingolstadt had a population of more than 5.6 million in 2008.

Munich, located at the river Isar in the south of Bavaria, is famous for its beautiful architecture, fine culture, and the annual Oktoberfest beer celebration. Munich's cultural scene is second to none in Germany, with the museums even considered by some to outrank Berlin in quality. Many travelers to Munich are absolutely stunned by the quality of the architecture. Although it was heavily damaged by allied bombing during World War II, many of its historic buildings have been rebuilt and the city center appears mostly as it did in the late 1800s including its largest church, the Frauenkirche, and the famous city hall (Neues Rathaus).

Munich is also a major international center of business, engineering and research exemplified by the presence of two research universities, several multinational companies and worldclass technology and science museums like the Deutsches Museum, BMW Museum and Siemens Forum.

BMW Welt (English – BMW World), is a multi-functional customer experience and exhibition facility of the BMW AG, located in Munich, Germany. In direct proximity to the BMW Headquarters and the Olympiapark, it is designed to present the current products of BMW, be a distribution center for BMW cars, and offer an event forum and a conference center.

The Viktualienmarkt is a daily food market and a square in the center of Munich, Germany.

The Viktualienmarkt developed from an original farmers' market to a popular market for gourmets. In an area covering 22,000 m2 (240,000 sq ft), 140 stalls and shops offer flowers, exotic fruit, game, poultry, spices, cheese, fish, juices and so on.

Most stalls and shops are open during the official opening hours (Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.); but the Biergarten doesn't open until 9 a.m. Many stalls close at 6 p.m., before the standard closing time. There are special opening hours for flower shops, bakeries and restaurants.

Photographing living human beings in public?!? What kind of madness is this?

Clearly Vox needs to re-learn how to hold the camera steady however.

Een van de topattracties van Sapporo is het biermuseum met biergarten en restaurant, allemaal gevestigd in en om een voormalige bierbrouwerij. Vooral in de weekeinden komen er duizenden mensen.

A real Badge beer in the tap was floating and you could smell beer everywhere in the garden.. and taste some! ;-)

Still, a really grey old day with rain it was - I am planning to come back on Friday and hopefully take some sharper and iteresting photos :)

One of our favourite spots we found in Halifax - Stillwell Beergarden.

Munich beergarden - live rock'n'roll - people dancing - people watching. I loved the way the little boy non-chalantly leaned against his fathers shoulder. Couldn't decide which of the two photos I shot "from the hip" I liked better, so here are both.

(I hate to photograph people who are not aware of it, but this dad&sons trio was just too tempting.)

A 30 year old hangout for expats. One of the last original holdouts of the original Sukhumvit area bars. Food is average. Beer prices average. Music not too loud. Mix of men and women. Open early (11am) and closes late (2am). Soon to be gone. Most of the current block has been razed already and this will be next in 2017 to make way for a new plastic condo. The color pics give a realistic view of what it looks like outside. The B&W give a sense of how it feels inside. Open air with a roof to protect from rain. Basic bars, stools and a few tables for eating. The end of this means the end of an era from post Vietnam War on Sukhumvit Rd. Change is inevitable, but not always appreciated initially.

Night shots ot the beautiful Riverworks beer garden!

Late afternoon in the beergarden of the Benedictine monastery of Andechs.

Local Count Rasso (later Saint rasso) had started to gather relics in the Holy Land, that were kept here since 954. This treasure ("Heiltumsschatz") was increased and later even included the "Holy Prepuce". The first pilgrimage to Andechs is known from 1128, when this was still a castle. Soon after he first Benedictian monks settled here in 1455, a brewery was founded, to feed the pilgrims.

Seen here is "Vollbier Hell" to the left and stronger "Doppelbock Dunkel" to the right.

Here is more about the brewery (in German):

Here are some shots I took here during previous visits:
