The Viktualienmarkt developed from an original farmers' market to a popular market for gourmets. In an area covering 22,000 m2 (240,000 sq ft), 140 stalls and shops offer flowers, exotic fruit, game, poultry, spices, cheese, fish, juices and so on.
Most stalls and shops are open during the official opening hours (Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.); but the Biergarten doesn't open until 9 a.m. Many stalls close at 6 p.m., before the standard closing time. There are special opening hours for flower shops, bakeries and restaurants.

A real Badge beer in the tap was floating and you could smell beer everywhere in the garden.. and taste some! ;-)

A 30 year old hangout for expats. One of the last original holdouts of the original Sukhumvit area bars. Food is average. Beer prices average. Music not too loud. Mix of men and women. Open early (11am) and closes late (2am). Soon to be gone. Most of the current block has been razed already and this will be next in 2017 to make way for a new plastic condo. The color pics give a realistic view of what it looks like outside. The B&W give a sense of how it feels inside. Open air with a roof to protect from rain. Basic bars, stools and a few tables for eating. The end of this means the end of an era from post Vietnam War on Sukhumvit Rd. Change is inevitable, but not always appreciated initially.

Local Count Rasso (later Saint rasso) had started to gather relics in the Holy Land, that were kept here since 954. This treasure ("Heiltumsschatz") was increased and later even included the "Holy Prepuce". The first pilgrimage to Andechs is known from 1128, when this was still a castle. Soon after he first Benedictian monks settled here in 1455, a brewery was founded, to feed the pilgrims.
