The common carder bee (Bombus pascuorum, Ackerhummel) is a midsize bumblee species and a frequent visitor in our garden. Usually the population reaches its peak with 60-150 bumblebees in August before the queen and the entire nest dies in September. In April/May new queens appear and the circle of life starts again.

The bees were all over the gardens and this one was very busy going through the flower. I think it was an artichoke!
