Delighted to be included in Spoonflower's Trend Report 'SF2021PantoneCOTY Collection'. A happy accident that the yellow and gray colour scheme is close to Pantone's sensitively chosen Colours of the Year for 2021.

Taken with Kiev 60 and Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f/4 Flektogon lens, shot on Kodak Portra 400VC color negative film. Film developed at home with Tetenal Colortec C-41 kit.
This was also shot using Kiev 60's waist level finder's "sport option". Framing was yet again difficult because everything was upside down. I should have moved that drying frame away just in case...

Finns are not particularly religious so sunday doesn't mean going to church, not working or things like that.
No: at least in my family it has always been the cleaning day.
Walking the streets of southern part of Helsinki this sunday I saw some other people too know this meaning of sunday. The bedlinen are aired, the frost creeps inside, the feet in woollen socks feel cold.
Crowds flood Dongdaemun, Seoul’s (and Korea’s) largest market, made up of open-air and indoor sections, spreading along Cheonggyecheon stream, where one can find seemingly EVERYTHING. The market is named after the ornamental gate at its eastern entrance, which just means great (dae) east (dong) gate (mun).

I think this looks quite sweet on bedding. Old fashioned. Reassuring - or something like that...

‘What’s up, Buttercup? by Su_G' (www.spoonflower.com/designs/15180181): entry in Spoonflower's 'Buttercups Home Decor' Design Challenge. © Su Schaefer 2023
I imagine this design used for pillows or cushions. Thanks to Lotte, one of my Life Drawing group’s models. Two phrases ran through my head as I created this design: I used one for the title (apparently it *is* an actual saying), and the other was the title of a chart-topping song by The Foundations in 1968: ‘Build me up Buttercup’, guaranteed to cheer you up and this link uses a flower (guess which one) for the songster: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSofzQURQDk
Mockup c/o Spoonflower
Sorry that the new voting system still (sigh) has bugs... www.spoonflower.com/design-challenge/Buttercups is the link for voting - patience needed as can take a long time to get past the gray boxes stage - generally open for one week only.
BUT be warned! There will probably be around 1500 entries, and in previous contests they have been hard to see.
If you do feel reckless and decide for the "new and exciting" voting experience please let me have some quotable quotes re what worked and what didn't so I can pass them on to Spoonflower. Thank you! :-)
But I understand if that's too much.

'Turn it up to the Max by Su_G' in a duvet cover (mockup c/o Spoonflower)
This was my entry in Spoonflower's Maximalist Design Challenge. Channeling the “larger than life design elements” part of the suggested brief for the contest. I was really pleased that it placed 147th out of 810 total entries (with 109 unsolicited, verified valid votes, & 85 faves) - in the 1st third. Always aiming for the top 100 but this was the closest to that my entry has gotten for a looong time.

'Parsley, Sage, Rosemary + Thyme by Su_G': my entry in Spoonflower's 'Vegetable & Herb Gardens' Design Challenge.
(mockup c/o Spoonflower)
Original: Scanned herbs + line art (process note below).
© Su Schaefer 2021
From the lyrics of the old English traditional:
"Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine"
My process was to collect a sample of each herb from my kitchen garden, then to scan, tidy and arrange them, warts and all. Hence you can see that I have plenty of leaf-eating caterpillars in my garden!
The link for voting - after June 15th - will be www.spoonflower.com/contest_voters_temp/new?contest_id=602 - open for one week only. So far there are xxx entries - more than enough waterways for everyone...

R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) is one of my longstanding heroes. American architect, systems theorist, author, designer, and inventor of the Dymaxion House - which could be mass produced in a factory, packed into a cylinder 6 foot high, railed to wherever you wanted it, assembled in a day or so by a couple of people; and packed up and moved again when you did. Oh how I wanted to live in one of them!
Another thing Buckminster Fuller said: “Sometimes I think we're alone. Sometimes I think we're not. In either case, the thought is quite staggering.”

Week One
It's been a while since I did a self portrait. More than a month I have to say.
I think I shouldn't put this in the 365 days anymore, the very first 365 I did was on April 7th, so by right I should've finished, with many many holes in between. I think it perhaps is more fitting to do a 52 weeks. Seeing that I have the most free time on the weekends. 52 self portraits, that shouldn't be too hard should it? =P
Work has been busy, but even that might be an understatement. It's getting really hot and humid in Singapore, so coupled with work, that gives me heat and tension headaches.
I'll be traveling to ShenZhen on Tuesday. I can't wait for this week to be over so I can kiss the presentations and the meetings goodbye, until next year.
I bought those sheets on offer. I'm like that, I can spend money not on clothes but on bedsheets. I can't get enough of bedlinen.
