CROSS-BEDDING, a recent "accident" in my exploration of in-camera multiple exposure. Cross-bedding is a geologic phenomenon where deposition from a flowing medium, water or wind, occurs on an inclined surface, such as a ripple and dune. (Check out Wikipedia for more info.) My ME studies seek to accentuate the geologic layering of the landscape I live in, both external and internal.

From Anthropologie, Feb '09.

The Victorian People's Flower Gardens located close to the Parkgate Street entrance, comprise an area of 9 hectares (22 acres) and, were re-opened in 1864. These gardens were initially established in 1840 as the Promenade Grounds. They provide an opportunity to display Victorian horticulture at its best. Ornamental lakes, children's playground, picnic area and Victorian bedding schemes are just some of the attractions. The opening hours are 8am till dusk. Closing times vary during the year.

What do you do when you want to go to sleep, but your bed looks so beautiful with the new quilt and pillows that you don't want to ruin the effect?

I guess Ellie will be sleeping on the sofa tonight.

Thank you to Angie Coppi for the gorgeous bedding set. She hand-sewed the quilt (which is very detailed, with lace, beads, and quilted hearts), using colors that I requested; she also hand-sewed the matching pillows and sleep mask; and she knitted the amazing throw from bamboo yarn--which I've never heard of before--it is extremely soft and beautiful. This is Angie's half of a swap we are doing...I am still working on my package for her. I think I need to "up" my game a little, in light of these fabulous gifts!

Home furnishings and bedding/bath seemed to be generating the most interest while we were at this Kmart liquidation, as evidenced by the nearly empty shelving seen here!

Tablecloths and bedding were over in this area.

This is from the liquidation of Macy's at Midway Mall in Elyria, Ohio. This closing is sadder since it is my hometown Macy's store. I had only been in here once in the preceding five years, so I certainly didn't help keep the store open...

This store opened in 1990 as a May Company department store. This 105,000 square foot store replaced an O'Neil's / May Company store in Lorain. In the early 1990s, this store rebranded as Kaufmann's. In 2006, the store was rebranded to Macy's. In January 2016, Macy's decided to close this location. At the time of writing this (early March 2016), the store is having its liquidation sale.

I bought a Canon SX160 at a thrift store today for $10. However the date battery was dead, and when it's dead you have to enter the date and time every time you turn it on. So I went over to Batteries Plus but they had a sign on the window that said, "Back in 10 Minutes."

So while I was waiting I took a few photos, one of which was this of the flower bed on the side of the store. I then ran it through a few filters on PhotoScape.

I intend to use this camera at work to replace an older Canon point and shoot.

This is a detail shot of the siding on the south side, west of the stable door, posted. It seems that the nails and wood in the shade held the red paint as the wood siding bleached. To my way of impression, this is required texture and patina. When I titled this, I already knew that this was the lodge stables so it seemed a natural. Sheesh, the history of the Point o' Pines is slip sliding away too fast, as is summer travel in the Rockies when people lingered at such lush and rustic mountain resorts. I have to use this to imagine the original lodge and activity. I know the nags enjoyed those lush and fantastic grasses in the pasture/corral on the north side of the building. As a matter of fact, the grasses around the stable were 3 to 4 feet tall and I had to power my way through it to get to spots I where I wanted to point the camera.

I have popped up shots of the place earlier. eDDie and I were scouring the old Point o' Pines livery stable for shots of interest. I could have spent twice the time lingering about searching detail. I am popping up some of the detail shots for a new/old series I retrieved from my patented eDDie jet trip. He wants to amass pix fater than do I. I don't know if I was following eDDie that day or he was, in essence, following me. I have shot the stable before but then, I usually feel that I left shots behind no matter where I visit, eDDie's or my venues.

The stable, sheathed in red asphalt on the road side, still exists at the lower Ferncliff-Allenspark bypass turnoff and has really easy access. This is only a couple of weeks old. The stable sits atop a rise clearly visible from the intersection. This is not the same intersection where one can get guitar lessons from the devil. As I remember hearing, one life was lost when the Point o' Pines Lodge burned to the ground. The old steel bed frames are still stashed in the old stable, strange bed fellows, beds and horse bedding. Nob and tube wiring was run to a shelter behind the stables. I bet the lodge rang up the stable hands to send a notice to them that guests were ready for a ride. This has a wealth of texture and patina. Ahhh, what a combination of an old, dry wooden Point o' Pines lodge and smoking guests. What could go wrong? Probably not the work of the devil but it might have been the result of a kitchen fire. Soon after I posted my original shots on Flickr, I saw three cars parked around the stable and have given it a wide berth since.

A beautiful example of cross bedding in the sandstone rocks in the Amphitheater walls of Snow Canyon State Park.

The Kanab Sand Caves are found in the sandstone/siltsone cliff are nestled almost at the top of the Kayenta Formation. Just above them (visible top left in this photo) is the Navajo Sandstone.

These caves were formed in the 1930s and 1940s to mine sand. The sand mined from these caves was used to make glass and make molds for casting iron. The choice to mine sand at this location was made due to the softness of the rock and the relatively easy access, walking up the side of the cliff.

There is some spectacular cross bedding (evidence of ancient sand dunes) that you see as you walk along the cliff face and that you climb along as you hike up to the caves. The cross bedding is very evident in this photo.

I treated myself for those chilly nights

I stopped by the store to check out hooks for my Landing Strip and discovered this bedding on sale for about 57% off. Grabbed the bedskirt and all the shams. It might go back, I have massive trepidation. But, uh, reeaaallllyyy love it!

These Geese were the main reason that the Ridgefield Willdife Refuge was set up... Its always fun to see the big flocks settling in to feed or rest.

Every time I step into a greenhouse where petunias are growing, their dense, rich fragrance transports me back to the year 1966 in central Kansas. It is spring and I am with my mother shopping for bedding plants at the small local nursery. Some of today's new varieties would have astonished us.
