Sooner or later, we will have to recognize that the Earth has rights, too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans.
Evo Morales
If we're destroying our trees and destroying our environment and hurting animals and hurting one another and all that stuff, there's got to be a very powerful energy to fight that. I think we need more love in the world. We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to contribute to that.

It's coming home to roost over the next 50 years or so. It's not just climate change; it's sheer space, places to grow food for this enormous horde. Either we limit our population growth or the natural world will do it for us, and the natural world is doing it for us right now.

As a father I could not comprehend why this kind of tragedy has to happen to families... It stunned and deeply affected me...
Each day, 17 babies will die, the tragic victims of stillbirth or neonatal death. This is a statistic that is seeing no signs of decreasing, and behind each number is a family rocked to the foundations by the death of their baby.
This shocking figure, the loss of 6,500 babies every year, is something the public is not generally aware of. Most people think stillbirths don’t happen in the 21st century. Yet stillbirth in the UK is 10 times more common than cot death.
At Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, we feel this number of deaths is totally unacceptable. The Why17? campaign has been launched to raise awareness of this devastating loss and to ask the question:
“Why are 17 babies a day dying and what can be done to halt this national tragedy?”
1) Follow this link, fill in your details to email your MP to make them aware of the parliamentary launch of Why17? on March 4th 2009: www.why17.org/Get-Involved/Contact-your-MP.html
2) Add your name to the list of supporters (petition) : www.why17.org/Pledge-Your-Support.html
3) Make a contribution: donate online; buy a window sticker / wristband / balloon; or plan a sponsored event. More ideas here: www.why17.org/Get-Involved.html
03.05.09... An Imago Thursday...
(Disclaimer: As a father to a bubbly, brilliant, precious child, I feel the heartbreak and loss of people, especially close friends who have suffered this. It is a global tragedy. If I can contribute to its awareness and help promote resolution, I will, in my own way. If you are a parent, or have worked with children, or love children... you will understand where I am coming from... Thank you for dropping by.)

.....it would be in a far better place than it is now.
I have been sitting on this photo for a while. Milo was sitting there with one of his balls (enrichment toys) between his paws. I took a couple of photos and the keeper actually suggested to me " how cool would that look if you could edit it up and put a globe there?"
So straight away I started thinking about how I could do it and this is what I came up with.
To me personally the image alone has a message but I wanted a conservation message to go with it.
Mine I used as the title.
The keeper came up with,
Our Planet.
Our Future.
In your Hands.
And I think it is perfect.

THINK PINK SERIES ... #5 of 22 ...
Featuring HOPE, the traveling BLYTHE ... created for Mandy, by Christine, of Forty Winks Doll Studio, to promote Breast Cancer Awareness ... and to spread HOPE !! (Please see flickr ALBUM, for all information on this Special "Think Pink Series".
For this group a project is declared at the beginning of the New Year and by the end of the year a total of 100 photos featuring your topic are posted. Each 25 are posted as a collage.
This is my second collage (25). Whenever I go anywhere outdoors, whether just to the mailbox or for a walk in the woods, I see more and more disregard for our environment. So, my theme is about documenting what I find. It may include candid shots of people in the act of discarding trash or properly placing it in bins, the trash itself, an unfortunate animal entangled in fishing line or a mask, or on the opposing side of things, ways to repurpose or recycle.
*Maybe my project will inspire others to recycle, help pick up trash on the ground, and/or stop littering.

"People in the U.S. open 1,000 bottles of water every second and put 60 million plastic water bottles in the trash each year. Each day, people in the U.S. throw away more than 60 million plastic water bottles, most of which end up in landfills or as litter in America’s streets, parks and waterways."

"If only one per cent of the world’s masks are disposed of incorrectly, 10 million masks per month weighing close to 90,000 pounds will end up in nature, according to the World Wildlife Fund. That’s on top of the 52 billion pounds of plastic carried by rivers into oceans each year, washing up on shorelines, entangling wildlife and contaminating drinking water with microplastics."

Endometriosis Awareness Week and International Women's Day
Hi ya all, I am ‘the wife’ and I am here to say a few words about endometriosis. It’s a condition where the lining of the womb migrates out of the womb and attaches itself to any organ with in your body. I had a very common case where I had endometriosis on the back of my womb (between the bowel and womb), over my fallopian tubes and both ovaries. Every month like the lining inside the womb, endometriosis thickens and when menstruation occurs it bleeds, but it has nowhere to go. The pain can be agony and soul destroying but the thing that hurts even more is the lack of understanding from friends, family and even health care professionals. I went through 10 years of this pain, it started only being when I was bleeding but gradually starting to get where I was in pain most days of each month, not to mention the bowel problems. Friends and family got mad with me, “Why are you always ill” “go lose some weight and you will feel better” “you just need to walk it off” I didn’t go out or socialise and a lot of people walked away. Then to make a bad situation even worse my doctors didn’t even take me serious. I had a number of operations to see what was wrong, I had several different pills, coil, implant to help but these only made it worse. I would go and see my doctors who would imply it was all in my head. I did start to doubt myself. However, I had a very supportive husband and two children I had to get well for. After 6 different gynaecologists and many hospital stays, I found my current gynaecologist. Within 6 weeks of our first meeting he had me in for exploration surgery and he found endometriosis. He destroyed what he could but it sadly made no difference to the pain. So on the 10th January 2013, at 30 years old I had a full hysterectomy. I now have no womb, fallopian tubes or cervix but had to keep my ovaries to prevent me going into menopause. It was a mess inside my abdomen. The pathology report also stated I had adenomyosis which is like endometriosis but inside the muscles of the womb. I will continue my fight against the endometriosis as it will probably grow back on my ovaries until I hit menopause. I don’t want people to feel sorry for me or say how strong I am because I am not, I am just like everyone else, but I want people to realise that someone you know could be suffering like me who needs a friend. Read up on endometriosis, understand that they have physical pain but also emotional, they might be suffering with infertility or the prospect of surgery, and understand if they are not their normal bubbly self. Understanding goes a long way, ignorance only leads to hurt. Spread awareness!
www.endometriosis-uk.org/index.html
The aim of Endometriosis Awareness Week is to draw awareness to a condition that often goes unrecognised and therefore untreated in women. So what is it exactly?
The problem arises when the tissue that usually grows inside the womb starts growing in other places in the body. While the tissue in the womb falls away with a period, this tissue remaining on the outside can lead to cysts and scar tissue. For more information and endometriosis support visit the website.
Do you want to help women with endometriosis? Well, you can and in so many different ways! All you have to do is ask for a fundraising pack online and get planning your own event. Host a dinner party for your friends and ask for a donation - or do some spring cleaning and hold a jumble sale! We all have stuff that we don't use or wear hidden away and I bet if you got other people to band together and do the same you'd soon have a great event!
From a Lapland Husky Trail to cycling round India - Endometriosis UK have done it all.
Now it's time to show what you can do!
I chose this shot to raise awareness of Endometriosis Awareness Week and thought it fitting to use the Marilyn Monroe Lego figure as she was just one of the many women who have suffered this debilitating condition. I chose to wait till today for this shot as it is also International Women's Day and the most inspirational women I have ever known is my wife who has batted through thick and thin with this condition as well as others.

International Children's Book Day 2013. A small selection of children's books in my house at the moment, I took this shot to raise awareness for International Children's Book Day, today the 2nd April.
April the 2nd was chosen to mark this day for young literature lovers as it's the same date as Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, the author of many famous children's stories like The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling.
Organised by the International Board on Books For Young People, or IBBY, the aim is to promote books and reading to young people. IBBY was founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 1953 and today there are 70 National Sections from all parts of the world.
During International Children's Book Day there will be a number of events held around the world, including writing competitions and talks from famous authors and illustrators.
While you might be familiar with well-known works like Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland, there is a whole host of fabulous children's books out there waiting to be discovered - not just by children but by adults who are young at heart too!
To find out more about the day and events happening near you, visit International Childrens Book Day website and pick up a book today!
I set this shot up on my hallway floor so that I could get a darkened background and I liked reflection of the books on the flooring. I took this shot in manual mode with an aperture of f/4.5 for 1/250sec and used the pop up flash on my camera to highlight the books and highlight the reflection on the floor.
...I have this strange feeling that I'm not myself anymore. It's hard to put into words, but I guess it's like I was fast asleep, and someone came, disassembled me, and hurriedly put me back together again. That sort of feeling.

If I could be half the person my beloved Gran was I would be happy.
She really was the most amazing woman and there isn't a single day that I don't miss her.
She died of breast cancer so for me spreading the message is very personal.
Miss you Nan!
I AM NOW ON A MISSION TO TRY AND GET THIS INTO AS MANY GROUPS AS POSSIBLE TO SPREAD THE WORD
It's breast cancer awareness month, which is also today's theme for PPT. We are all affected in some way so be aware everyone!
HPPT!
Day 233of the 365 Journey
This shot was originally suppoed to be on October 1st to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but AGENT 47 needed a pink tie, and it was the tail end of the BLACK AND WHIHTE challenge. So HITMAN broke the rules! He can do that…….WHO’S GONNA ARGUE?!
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today (after lung cancer) and is the most common cancer among women, excluding non melanoma skin cancers. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1.3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer annually worldwide about 465,000 will die from the disease. Breast cancer death rates have been dropping steadily since 1990, according to the Society, because of earlier detection and better treatments.
The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2009 about 1,910 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among MEN in the United States. Breast cancer is about 100 times less common among men than among women. For men, the lifetime risk of getting breast cancer is about 1/10th of 1% (1 in 1,000).
Unfortunately most of us either know someone, knew someone or ARE someone with breast cancer. Like all cancers, there’s no absolute cure, however if detected early enough survival is extremely high. Men and women should perform monthly exams. Pick a day, such as the first of the month and perform your exam routinely! It takes less than five minutes a month and it could save your life.
It’s Breast Cancer Awareness MONTH, however it doesn’t stop there!
