Highlights from this years athletes competing in The Beast of Ballyhoura - Adventure Racing European Championships teams from 15 different countries, competing in a non stop 72 hour endurance race, with a distance of 450km, which started at the historical 12th century Curraghmore House, Co Waterford.The race continued until Sunday evening and included mountain biking, coasteering, mountain navigation, including the Comeragh Galtee and Ballyhoura Mountain Ranges, kayaking, trail runnng. this is my beast project of the summer. i hashtag it #deconrecon on twitter for deconstruction/reconstruction. it belongs to a lady from our church. her mother, since passed away, made it. she found it and washed it and several of the squares and seams started to come apart. she told me not to bother with it if it would be too much work but...YARN!!!
this is only half. it consists of 135 4" squares, sewing with black. some of the squares could not be saved so i made new ones using some of the yarn the lady provided from her mom's stash and some from my own. the only way, i could see, to properly sew in the new squares has been to completely decon the blanket then recon it. there were too many broken squares to just cut those and sew in the new ones (IMO). i checked with the owner to be sure she was okay with that process (she was) and i've tried to preserve/re-use as much of the original squares and yarn as i can.
but it's work...WORK!
