Fish Creek offers a unique opportunity to view and photograph Alaskan Brown (Grizzlies) and Black bears. The bears come here to feed on the chum and pink salmon which spawn in the creek. From July to September, the salmon run provides an extensive food supply for bears, gulls and bald eagles.

We woke up to a couple of inches of snow on the ground at camp. The animals sort of holed up, but we could see what tracks there were nicely.

This bear had been shot and wounded in the front leg, which was shattered and full of gangrene. He would have had a hard, miserable death. And people think houndsmen are unsportsmanlike, but we don't leave stuff like this in the field to suffer, that's for sure. DFG came and condemned the carcass, and will issue the hunter a new tag.
