I glued countless thousands of seed beads to a 1978 edition of the Candy Land game board. I estimate the total to be 100,000+ beads. Each land presented challenges and opportunities in the use of novelty materials. I used polymers, crushed amber, buttons shells and baubles, q tips, pipe cleaners, foam, charms, wooden beads, etc. Completed 2006. Featured in Dec. 2006 issue of Bead and Button Magazine. 26" x 26". Collection of Geri and Brian Mott.
The complete piece and the details of each land can be accessed via the attached links

I love the word "vision" because it has meaning on different levels. The obvious one for me (having just gone through two eye surgeries for cataracts with a hugely remarkable outcome) is the blessing of sight, of being able to see color, form, detail, depth, light... Perception of color saturation and detail were gradually lost to me as the cataracts grew and thickened. I am so very blessed to have good vision again.
But vision also refers to:
1. Unusual competence in discernment or perception; intelligent foresight: a leader of vision.
2. The manner in which one sees or conceives of something.
3. A mental image produced by the imagination.
4. The mystical experience of seeing.
All of these are blessings too!

For September the blessing is Nature. What a blessing it is to have trees, rocks, birds, leaves, flowers, beaches, and all the miracles of nature to enchant our senses! There's so much to nature that my project box was stuffed, chuck-a-block, with beads and accents that I thought maybe I'd use.
Turns out it's more simple than I thought it might be, showcasing only a few of the things in my box. Maybe that's as it should be... I don't really know.
The tree is a twig from one of our Madrona trees, which I sanded on the back side so it would lie flat on the fabric. The pebble is from our garden. A pair of mother-of-pearl birds, one on a little fragment of driftwood from South Beach and one on the branch, complete the picture.
