Edge of Silence – Portrays a lone fisherman poised between the calm of the quiet beach and the unruly power of the sea.
He stands at the edge of silence, where the sea holds its breath a fragile calm stretched thin over depths that dream of storms.
The horizon hums with promise, waves whisper in restless tongues, and his line becomes a question cast between peace and chaos.
Here, the ocean waits wild heart tethered to stillness, as the fisherman listens for the first shiver of the deep.
The idea of lovers on a beach has deep roots, often intertwined with romantic legends and the inherent allure of beaches as places of escape and intimacy. Beaches are naturally romantic settings, offering a sense of freedom and a connection to nature that can enhance romantic experiences. These settings have inspired countless stories, from historical accounts to modern-day tales, solidifying the beach as a classic backdrop for love.
Ravens symbolize a complex mix of wisdom, magic, mystery, and transformation, but can also be associated with death, prophecy, and ill-omen across different cultures. They are seen as messengers from the cosmos, tricksters, and creators, while in literature and mythology, they are often linked to the cycles of death and rebirth, or the darker side of the subconscious.
The true understanding of dynamic balance lies not in viewing sand and water as separate but as a dynamic, single system where the whole is greater than its parts.
Just as the yin-yang symbol has a dot of the opposite color in each half, the sea is full of countless grains of sand suspended within it, and the beach holds pockets of moisture and marine life. This highlights that everything contains the essence of its opposite and has the potential to become its opposite. When in balance, the interplay between the sand and the sea creates the peaceful, restorative environment of the beach that soothes the soul.
In essence, the sand and the sea illustrate the fundamental principle of yin and yang: that seemingly opposite forces are interconnected, complementary, and necessary for a harmonious, dynamic universe
Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I'm driving by your house
Though I know you're not home
But I can see you
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

California's beaches are incredibly popular, with an estimated 150 million day visits generated annually by tourists and residents. A significant portion of these visits, about 54%, are concentrated at just 15 beaches. This isn't one of the 15
The history of the relationship between humans and dogs is long and complex, stretching back tens of thousands of years to when wolves first began interacting with hunter-gatherer societies. These early interactions, likely involving scavenging near human settlements, gradually led to domestication, with humans selectively breeding dogs for various purposes like hunting, herding, and companionship. This bond has evolved into a deep, mutualistic relationship, with dogs providing companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance, while humans offer care, protection, and a place in their social structures.
This photo reminds me of Ink stippling which was invented by Giulio Campagnola, an Italian engraver, around 1510 to achieve tonal variation in his engravings. By using multiple tiny dots instead of lines, he could create more nuanced gradations of light and shadow. This technique was later adopted in various forms of ink and paint art, eventually distinguishing itself from the similar painting technique of Pointillism, which uses paint instead of ink.
California Coastal Range - This climatic diversity and the microclimates here contribute to the Coastal Range's rich ecosystems, from coastal redwood forests to chaparral-covered slopes, creating an enchanting tapestry of natural environments.
Lower Flatland areas: The summer tends to be dry and hot, while the winters are windy.
Higher Mountain region: As travelers ascend, temperatures become more varied, showcasing Mediterranean patterns with hot, dry summers and cooler, wetter winters.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a federal agency that works to understand and predict changes in Earth's environment, including weather, climate, oceans, and coasts.
NOAA station 9414290, located in San Francisco, has been in operation since at least 1929 and serves as a long-term tide and water level monitoring station. Its history includes providing data for the Tsunami Warning System after 2004, establishing local tidal datums based on decades of data from the 1960-1978 period, and a recent temporary disruption in data accuracy due to sediment in early 2024.
The Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse now stands near the original location of the Santa Cruz Lighthouse. Its namesake, Mark Abbott, drowned while body surfing near Pleasure Point. Abbott's parents used the money from his life insurance policy to donate a lighthouse to the city of Santa Cruz.
The Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse became a Santa Cruz staple in 1967. Mark\’s ashes are buried at the bottom. Now, the lighthouse is the home of the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum, which overlooks the iconic Steamer Lane surf spot.
When the surrounding area is rich with natural resources and beauty, luxury comes with a distinctly local touch. At The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, guests can savor the Northern California sunset on a beautiful evening; sample fine wines from vintners along the coast; craft s’mores over an open fire on their private terrace; discover the nourishing benefits of pumpkin at the spa or tee off on two championship golf courses that are as beautiful as they are well-designed. Holding court on a bluff overlooking the ocean, and just 20 miles from San Francisco International Airport, this beach resort in San Francisco, California celebrates its surroundings with an experience rooted in the element of fire and the discovery of wine.
Sorry: No Marlins and Sharks! ;-)

Located at the northern end of Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz Harbor is a haven for fishing craft and vessels. A harbor light, located at the west jetty, has marked its entrance for forty years. The original light was a box light structure which served from 1964 – 1996. It was replaced by a cylinder nicknamed “the water heater” which was used from 1996 – 1999. From 1999 until May 2002, a simple pipe structure held the light which marked the way into the harbor.
In 1998, they replaced the unsightly harbor light with a lighthouse of classic design.
White Back Wave Rider. All waves come and go, they are all unique but there is always one that stands out as the white back.

Bonfires have been used in a controlled manner for cooking, celebrations, ceremonies and entertainment possibly as long as 400,000 years. Evidence of cooked food dates about 1.9 million years ago, although fire was probably not used in a controlled fashion until a couple hundred thousand years ago.
Bonfire origins: The modern day (circa 15th century) use of the word bonfire probably came from banefire or bone-fire, referring to bones of slaughtered animals burned in Gaelic traditions to celebrate the end of summer.
While we Californians take our bonfires mostly without the bones, using a stick and placing a processed meat substance (hot dog) on it, the ritual is time-honored.
Sitting on Boracay’s famous white sand just a couple of months before the COVID quarantines ended, I found myself on what was usually a crowded beach in the Philippines—honestly, the best beach in the world, in my opinion. But on that day, there were maybe only a dozen people scattered around. Normally, this time of year, the beach would have been packed, but there we were, watching the sunset with just a few people in the water and a handful of sailboats in the distance.
The sky was putting on a show, with clouds stretching across the horizon, and the water was calm. Silhouettes of people stood in the shallow water, while the wet sand displayed patterns left behind by the waves.
