Another archive shot of a typical beach day, a sky full of happy clouds being puffed along on a playful wind. Days at the coast can be so bright and are always happy and life affirming. Ride like the wind is by Frank Zappa
I saw the beach on Google Maps, but I had not seen many images on the web of this small, but very cool beach. I thought this might be because the beach is inaccessible. After lots of mouse-clicking research I was not still not sure there was any way to reach the shore. The road to it was up very high, and the beach was down a cliff face. Typical Oregon coast. Only one way to know. Heading out there I passed the site a few times before I saw a small trail going down. After finding a dirt patch to park on I felt a little stupid because there was a good sized sign marking the beach access trail. Ok. As it turns out, the trail was the best part. This trail twisted and turned many ways, through man made tunnels through vegetation and with lots of shore type washed up props decorating the trail. Once down there, a large spout (about 4 feet square) was flowing water from a stream/river onto the beach of rocks. Ok, well that was neat. I was just here for the haystack rock, but this is cool too. I got there in the dark, well before the sunrise. I scoted out a spot to shoot and spent most of the morning waiting for color in the sky. Waiting, waiting...nothing. Ok, pack it up. I went back to the waterfall trying to get an image there. Ok, got some interesting shots and...whats that? I glanced to the shore and BAM, some color! I think all of us landscape photographers know this- the mad-scrabmle. I frantically set up the tripod and let the brackets fly. This was even harder considering it was raining and I was using a new 145mm (not a typo) polarizing filter. Man that thing can collect the raindrops. Wipe, shoot, wipe, shoot. Such fun. The color only lasted about a minute and a half. Phew. Waking up at 3am paid off. Let me know what you think.

Gorgeous morning on Motukiekie Beach - no sunrise and overcast but that just gives it some moody drama

Beach Sun Flower goes by many names, Helianthus Debilis, East Coast Dune Sun Flower, common name Cucumberleaf Sun Flower. It is native to the United States, where it can be found along the Atlantic and Gulf Coast. It is also know else where as an introduced species, such as South Africa, Australia, Taiwan and Slovakia, just to name a few. Picture taken at the Florida Zoo.
Standing on Maho Beach, near the approach end of runway 10 at Princess Juliana International Airport in Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten, I heard something getting louder and louder. HI977, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-83, was departing runway 28. It was headed to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic as PWD722 (Pan Am World Airways Dominicana, C. x A.).
Unfortunately, this rather striking livery disappeared from the skies when the carrier was grounded by Dominican authorities on January 28, 2018.
Image taken on a very cold March morning on Caister beach on the Norfolk coast at sunrise. Image shows the sun rising over the sea with wind turbines on the horizon and an old second world war bunker half buried in the sand in the foreground.
It wasn't cold enough to keep me inside. I bundled up and sat on the porch watching the infrequent lone beach walker with companion dog along for company. I love the beach in the winter time; deserted, untouched by footprints, and unobstructed views.
Beach, please, I'm up to my knees
In crystal blue water with a tropical breeze
Cooler full of cold Corona
Ain't nobody gonna find me
'Coz I'm gonna be a million miles away under some coconut trees
Don't wake me up from this dream
Beach please

I found out about Iona beach at Emily Carr Universities Granville Island campus after seeing some great prints by a photographer named Hideaki in the darkroom. Hideaki used a older Hasselblad and Ilford delta 120 film, it took him over an hour to develop his film and up to 8 hours to meticulously make RC proof prints and a few fiber prints.
This old CPR Railway Station was moved from it's former location and transported across the street from Goderich"s main beach.
It was converted into a Restaurant. You can read about the history and check out the menu here:
