The Bathurst Courthouse, located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, is known for its distinctive dome. Designed by the renowned colonial architect James Barnet, the courthouse was constructed between 1884 and 1888 in the Victorian Free Classical architectural style. The dome atop the courthouse is a prominent feature, characterized by its elegant proportions, intricate detailing, and copper covering. It serves as a landmark in Bathurst's skyline and adds to the architectural grandeur of the courthouse, which continues to serve as a vital hub for legal proceedings in the region.
Spotted a small grove of blossoming trees as I entered Bathurst a couple weeks ago, on my way back from a canola field hunt. The sun was out and the blossoms were in full bloom. Spring in the countryside, does not get much better.
Honest Ed's is prominently located on the corner of Bloor and Bathurst Streets, running the whole length of the block. The exterior is covered with huge red and yellow signs advertising the name of the store, lit up like a theatre marquee. The store sign uses 23,000 light bulbs. The store consists of two buildings connected by a walkway that links up the west building on Markham Street and the east building on Bathurst Street. The interior is much more modest, with simple displays of low-priced merchandise, ranging from vacuum cleaners and winter coats to kitchenware, toys and grocery items. Much of the store's decor consists of posters and photos from old films and stage productions from Mirvish's theatres in Toronto and London, England, as well as of actors and musicians who performed in them (many of these inscribed to Ed Mirvish himself). Every piece of store signage is hand-painted. The outside facade is covered with humorous puns and slogans such as "Come in and get lost!" and "Only the floors are crooked!"
Added this rather poor scan from tiny picture in Reece Winstone's "Bristol As It Was 1934-1936" to go with the other pics I've posted on the bridge. As the date is so precise I guess it must have been taken by the great man himself.

While Reece Winstone was a pioneer in recording Bristol I think his books went slightly down hill as he crowded in too many small pictures to the detriment of the overall presentation - his earlier books were better in that respect

during a far-too-long construction period on the indoor stairs. I especially love how the arrows get smaller as they get closer to the bottom.
