I was really happy with this portrait of my youngest daughter. Technically it came out great with the flash bounced off the ceiling and nice catchlight in her eyes. But more importantly it really captures her personality, she's quite the cheeky monkey!
I have finally seen the Hooded Merganser on the lake in Christchurch Park on day when I had my camera with me and the sun was shining!
Every couple of days this Little Sparrowhawk would come to our birdbath, and take a vigorous dip.. Splashing water everywhere...
Like most parents we divided the child care over the years and it happily became my responsibility to manage this little-guy's bathtime. I've been with him for nearly every bath/cleaning/dip-n-dunk since he was born.
During bathtime we talk about what he did that day and I always make a point to ask about his favorite part of the day. He'll typically say something about Pokemon or a book he read or watching a favorite show but tonight was different and he said, "planting pumpkin and squash seeds with momma."
Over the past several months he's been transitioning to showers--some of this is out of boredom but mostly because he is wanting more independence...he wants to be a Big Kid. It's understandable and I'm proud of him--he is, afterall, almost 10 years old.
But I can't help but wonder about the time when he’ll no longer need me around for tasks like this...when he will, after dinner, go upstairs and shower on his own not needing my help. I do want him to have more independence but, my god, I’m going to miss this time together--thinking about that makes my stomach hurt.
Time is flying by...
Because I've never done Monday Undies before.

Bohemian Waxwing - Bombycilla garrulus
Waxwings are an irruptive winter visitor to the UK some years we get 1,000s visiting if the Scandinavian berry crop has failed as the migrate west from Siberia.
This year only small numbers have turned up so the chances of finding any have been quite slim, three in an Apple tree on my usual walking route to Big Waters was a nice bonus.
I’ve got most of the ‘classic’ book photo poses of these birds in previous winters but when one of them dropped to the floor and started having a bath it gave me an opportunity to get something different.
Flickrs Birthday Challenge Day 16: Weirdness
Some more shots from Canary Wharf Winter Lights trip. This installation is called Aj Vana Be and is lots of bath tubs in a column which lit up and chanaged colours. If this isn't wierd (& fab) then I don't know what it!
Appreciate all your commnets and favourites.
Bath Time at the Wye Marsh. Trumpeter Swans will quite often mate for life, although occasionally "divorces" will happen.
This colorful American Robin decided it was time for a bath along the Meadowbrook at the Los Angeles County Arboretum !
