The Weymouth Seaside Express passes Sydney Gardens at it leaves Bath Spa.

During the summer of 2021, the railway lines around Bristol Temple Meads were undergoing Engineering Works, which led to a variety of bustitutions and adapted railway services.

 

Former Aberdeen Volvo B9TL 37642 has been repainted into base Bath City blue colours, but not yet had the vinyls applied.

Shoppers and UK tourist have at last returned. The socially distanced hustle and bustle in the warm sunshine is wonderful

Bath is the second largest city in the ceremonial county of Somerset, England, known for its Roman-built baths and Georgian brick architecture. In 2016, its population reached 90.931. Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, 97 miles (156 km) west of London and 11 miles (18.5 km) south-east of Bristol. The city became a World Heritage Site in 1987.

The city became a spa with the Latin name Aquæ Sulis, AD 60 when the Romans built baths and a temple in the valley of the River Avon, although hot springs were known even before then. Bath Abbey was founded in the 7th century and became a popular religious centre; the building was rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries. In the 17th century, claims were made for the curative properties of water from the springs, and Bath became popular as a spa town in the Georgian era. Georgian architecture, crafted from Bath stone, includes the Royal Crescent, Circus, Pump Room, and Assembly Rooms.

Class 33 locomotive No. 33016 arrives at Bath Spa station on Saturday 8th December 1984, most likely with a service from Portsmouth Harbour.

 

I don't think the blurred "33" is quite what I intended for this shot but then it's not always just about the loco.

 

I find it quite remarkable to think that those little girls watching the train arrive will now be middle-aged women, quite possibly with families of their own.

You've gotta love First and their whacky branding, I've seen recent pictures of First's Uni buses in York complete with a Duck on the front top deck window and a swanky livery to go with.

Here in Bath the student will have to make do with 'Devastatin' Dave' who proclaims to 'saving you money'.

I wonder how many of the students are rolling their eyes at that one!

Been living down here for nearly 5 years and this was one of the few times that I have done the tourist day out in Bath complete with open top bus tour, although any time I have to go to the city I make sure I pop into the little sweat shop over there because they sell the best range of liquorice.
