The first sunset of 2017 and it was a good one. The temperature was below freezing already and the sun disappeared in a lovely orange glow at 3.59. This image is one of a lot that I took and one of 32 that I am uploading. I stayed until well after the sun had gone as I love the shadow-less soft light after sunset. having worked all Christmas I was having a couple of days off, but, like most of my family, I had come down with the cold from hell, even my teeth hurt, so although the weather was great, I felt awful. The morning after an early and Night Nurse drugged night I was back at Buckstones ready for the sunrise. Minus 3 with a very hard frost but calm, it was a perfect sunrise. unfortunately, the cloudless blue sky and the brightness of the sun meant that it was just an experience to enjoy and photographically I didn't achieve a great deal. The sunset at the other end of the day was similar, no clouds-it had been a stunning day-so it was just a case of sun bathed golden rock and a clear blue sky so again I just watched the sun disappear. A promising start but grey and miserable was soon resumed.

Recovering from bath shock

Part of the Bath Riverside development, a large brownfield scheme on former industrial land southwest of the city centre. It forms Bath's "newest residential quarter" according to the development website, which I think is a nice way of saying lots of flats and houses. Handy for the supermarket, though, and faced with Bath stone on the fronts (but not the backs).

Explore the Bath Skyline along miles of waymarked footpaths. There is the Walk to the view - a circular three miles from the city centre out to the countryside and back, a circular 2 miles around the Family Discovery Trail, accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs, or the full six miles of the ever-popular Bath Skyline walk.

Discover hidden valleys, rich in limestone flowers and tranquil beech woodlands, interspersed with extensive views over Bath.

The limestone grassland slopes support a variety of plants and attract a number of butterflies, great for some spring and summer wildlife spotting.

Away from the main Bath Skyline walk, the Iron Age fort on Little Solsbury Hill offers the perfect vantage point for spectacular views over Bath. The skylark has also made its home here. Listen out for their distinctive song, a warbling of short trills, in late spring.
