The railing to Michelangelo's Dome is, thankfully, covered in a thin metal mesh - and, thus, the cloudy edges of the photograph. Nonetheless, this helps communicate more than any other photo I took just how high up the dome is and, also, just how unbelievably big the cathedral is. Notice the small dots at the bottom - those are people. I'm afraid of heights and was not at all comfortable standing on this thing stone walk way that is god-knows-how-many-years old. At this point, we're probably 350' above cathedral floor...
