Piazza Navona è una delle più belle e celebri piazze di Roma. La sua forma è quella di un antico stadio: venne costruita in stile monumentale per volere di papa Innocenzo X
Basilica San Pietro from the river Tiber - Rome, Italy.
The two figures on the left bank of the river give you an idea of the scale of the bridge and Basilica!
Basilica San Pietro, Rome, Italy.
In this photo I wanted to capture the connection between the onlookers and the Basilica while the rest of the world rushes by.
Following my latest visit to Roma, I decided to dig in my archives and reprocessed some pictures from my 2013 trip. These two pictures show the San Pietro Basilica dome, from different standpoints. Really an amazing place to visit... Hope you like these pics.
As usual, please view large (type L).

Thought I would scan an old photo (which had been printed from a colour slide) of St. Peter's Square, Rome, Italy, taken on 17 April 1967, when we spent two nights in Rome. This visit was part of a 3-week trip from Doha, Qatar (where we lived for a few months), back to England.
Last night, I stayed up and watched the whole funeral of Pope Francis. The Square looked very different from my photo, with many thousands of people from many countries including world leaders, royalty and many mourners, organized within the Square. Quite the sight to behold.
I always enjoyed seeing Pope Francis anytime on TV. I loved his smile and his sense of humour. A man full of humility and caring for others. A great example of what the important things and actions in life are. Such a sad contrast to parts of our modern world these days.
Thank you, Pope Francis, for all that you were and all that you did.
"Saint Peter's Square was designed by the architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini, at the behest of Pope Alexander VII. It was completed in 1667, after eleven years of intense and onerous work." From the basilicasanpietro website.
I love photographing ceilings. They are always challenging with lighting and in this case the large crowds milling around. It took several times to capture it without an arm or head passing through the frame. However this one did workout rather well.

So St. Peter's is big. The Holy Water basins are held by these Cherubs which are pretty much as large as a person.
