Esquimalt, BC Canada
Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt (CFB Esquimalt) is located west of Victoria in British Columbia. Established as a military installation by the Royal Navy in 1855, the base is home to the Canadian Navy Maritime Forces Pacific (MARPAC).
CFB Esquimalt includes 1,500 buildings spread over 23 sites on an area of about 5,000ha. The units within the base employ over 4,100 regular and reserve military forces and around 2,500 civilian personnel.
Located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Esquimalt is linked to the Strait of Juan de Fuca by a narrow channel, Royal Roads. The base is divided into three main areas.
The dockyard is the largest area and is located at the end of the Esquimalt Road, about 7km from downtown. The second largest section, Naden, is approximately 2km from the Dockyard. The third area is Work Point, which can be found about 2km from Naden.
The naval port at Esquimalt Harbour was christened in 1848. Permanent shore facilities were created in 1855 by the UK forces. The Royal Navy established an alternate base at Esquimalt in 1865 and in 1876 the first major construction began: the Royal Navy graving dock. Built for the Royal Navy’s largest ships, the facility received its first vessel, HMS Cormorant, in July 1887. The graving dock helped to strengthen the navy’s capabilities in the Pacific region.

A new black mech (stand alone pic coming) with an underdeveloped base and random fig. I like how black looks in real life but in pictures it's hard to capture.
Been busy lately - have not been online much, but the building goes on.

Anytime we go near that lake, Lough Shannaghan seen in the foreground, the heavens open up overhead. Thankfully we took shelter at the Mourne Wall.
Ended up with this shot and about 5 seconds of the time lapse project before the clouds came rolling back up the silent valley...
The US navy had a base at Capricorn Wharf along Macquarie Street, Teneriffe in Brisbane during WWII which played a significant role in the war in the Pacific. During the regeneration of the area in the 1990's, a heritage park and trail were established to pay homage to not only the US submarines and their crew but all submarines from Australia, the USA, Great Britain and New Zealand that were either based here or used Brisbane as a port of call and repair facility during the war.
The article below describes some of the history of the base and also has a number of photos of the site as it was during the war and the '90's regeneration project also. The area has nicely matured now.
The three photos from left clockwise are the centre of the current commemorative park which includes quite a few plaques with descriptions of various submarines from all four nations and other associated history from the conflict as well as seating in the shape of various classes of vessel. The top right shot features a submariner's prayer and details of one submarine based here that was lost at sea and the final shot is of course of the flags of the four nations involved. More details of all US and Australian vessels that served from Brisbane are shown on commemorative plaques in Newstead Park down the road.

Near the Apollo 11 Lunar Module landing site, there is a line of three craters named for Niel Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, & Michael Collins. The smallest is only 2.6 km or about 1.3 seconds of arc in size. These were imaged with a Questar 3.5" telescope, 2x2x Dakin Barlow lenses, and a Sony a6300 camera.

Leeuwarden Air Base will host units of the United States Air Force between 17 and 28 October 2022.
During this period, Dutch and American fighter aircraft flew joint practice missions.
The main aim of the exercise is, among other things, to promote mutual cooperation and deplorability between NATO partners.
Sunday 16e October four F22 aircraft will land at Leeuwarden Air Base.
The F22A is part of twelve U.S. Air Force F-22A Raptors assigned to the 90th Fighter Squadron, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Tail Code Numbering System US Air Force
Two large letters identify the unit (wing/group/organization) that the aircraft is assigned to, or the home base of the unit. In some instances, the letters indicate an historic legacy; for example, tail code "FF" has been used to indicate "1st Fighter Wing".
The Air Force aircraft Serial Number is also usually marked on the tail, in smaller numbers. Below the abbreviation "AF" is placed the first two digits of the serial number, indicating the fiscal year in which the aircraft was ordered. To the right are the last 3-digits of the serial number. See graphic below.
Different units located at the same air base can use different 2-letter codes.

Sculpture is created by North Yorkshire-based and Egyptian-born artist, Sam Shendi. Its a 4.5 metre, multicoloured, minimalist structure using colours to express a multitude of emotions and fears that a depressed individual experiences when having to make a decision. Represented by the outstretched legs, the artist also hopes to convey the positive opportunities that sit on the horizon for those who are struggling to overcome mental anguish.
First assembly of the "complete" base.

The colonization of the Moon is the proposed establishment of permanent human communities on the Moon. Advocates of space exploration have seen settlement of the Moon as a logical step in the expansion of humanity beyond the Earth. Recent indication that water might be present in noteworthy quantities at the Lunar poles has increased interest in the Moon. Polar colonies could also avoid the problem of long Lunar nights (about 354 hours, a little more than two weeks) and take advantage of the sun continuously.
Permanent human habitation on a planetary body other than the Earth is one of science fiction's most prevalent themes. As technology has advanced, and concerns about the future of humanity on Earth have increased, the argument that space colonization is an achievable and worthwhile goal has gained momentum. Because of its proximity to Earth, the Moon has been seen as a prime candidate for the location of humanity's first permanently occupied extraterrestrial base.
A lunar outpost was an element of the George W. Bush era Vision for Space Exploration, which has been replaced with President Barack Obama's space policy. The outpost would have been an inhabited facility on the surface of the Moon. At the time it was proposed, NASA was to construct the outpost over the five years between 2019 and 2024. The United States Congress directed that the U.S. portion, "shall be designated the Neil A. Armstrong Lunar Outpost".
On December 4, 2006, NASA announced the conclusion of its Global Exploration Strategy and Lunar Architecture Study. The Lunar Architecture Study's purpose was to "define a series of lunar missions constituting NASA's Lunar campaign to fulfill the Lunar Exploration elements" of the Vision for Space Exploration. What resulted was a basic plan for a lunar outpost near one of the poles of the Moon, which would permanently house astronauts in six-month shifts. These studies were made before the discovery of water ice (5.6 ± 2.9% by mass) in a polar crater, which may substantially affect plans.
If you enjoy please comment. Thank you very much.
Based on CantikFoto's suggestion here is a black and white conversion of the stairs. There certainly is something nice about it, but I'm on the fence as to whether the color or the B&W is better.
Thoughts?

Radical Horizons - Chatsworth House 150722

My collection of Tetley Brewery memorabilia, including three trays, assorted coasters, two glasses and two (unfortunately) empty bottles of Tetley Pale Ale.
Tetley Brewing is a Yorkshire based brewery founded in Leeds in 1822 by Joshua Tetley, hence the reason I'm wearing a Yorkshire shirt. The round tray and the two beer bottles were given to me, before I could drink, by my uncle who was a loyal Tetley drinker at his Leeds local.
I used to be able to buy Tetley Ale at the LCBO here in Ontario but they no longer carry it in stock for some reason. (The LCBO is the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, the government operated stores where you can purchase liquor, wine and beer in Ontario.) I have complained but to no avail.
Like many smaller breweries, Tetley was taken over by Danish giant Carlsberg in 1998. In 2008 Tetley sold over 185 million pints in pubs and continues to be a strong seller.
We're Here looks at All Things British today and I salute Tetley Beer! By the way, the beer is in no way related to Tetley tea, although it is nice that the name Tetley is associated with the two quintessential British drinks, tea and beer.
