Sunday 12 July 2015: Ishinca Base Camp (4385m) - Rest day
Cordillera Blanca Traverse day 8.
Everyone was happy with a rest day. After a late breakfast, Val, Barney, Bertho and I headed back up the Quebrada Ishinca to lovely Laguna Milluacocha with its cairns and Nevado Tocllaraju (6032m) backdrop.
Lots of birds, including an Andean Flicker, plus a viscacha on the way back.
Afternoon scrabble and coffee in Refugio Ishinca. Lots of people eating in.

Release by Dana Albany from San Francisco Bay Area
Release is a contemplative sculpture that seamlessly intertwines the female figure with the delicate symbolism of butterflies. She will be 33′ tall and emerge from an abstract chrysalis base. Crafted meticulously from a diverse array of butterfly species, this sculpture tells a profound story of liberation, metamorphosis, and the boundless potential inherent in all. Interspersed subtly in the bottom portion of the sculpture will be various mixed-metal treasures. The dynamic interplay between the female figure and the butterflies illustrates the symbiotic relationship between personal growth, transformation, and the liberation of one’s spirit. It serves as a reminder of the power gained by letting go, as the butterflies are released above.

U.S. Air Force pararescuemen assigned to the 57th Rescue Squadron based out of Aviano Air Base, Italy, establish security while members of the team recover a sensitive item during Exercise Savage Jackal near Benson, Arizona, July 26, 2026.
The search-and-recovery mission tested the team's ability to locate, secure and retrieve sensitive technological components from a simulated downed aircraft.
Savage Jackal served as the definitive certification exercise to prepare the 57th RQS for upcoming deployments to the U.S. Africa Command area of responsibility.

Young Will Shakespeare has writer's block... the deadline for his new play is fast approaching but he's in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds his muse – the courtly Viola de Lesseps. This beautiful young woman is Will’s greatest admirer and will stop at nothing (including breaking the law) to appear in his next play, disguising herself as boy-player Thomas Kemp. Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, Will’s love for Viola quickly blossoms and inspires him to write his greatest masterpiece.
The story is, at heart, a romantic comedy but it is also about the glorious world of show-business - nothing much changes in theatre and that London's Bankside in 1593 was much like commercial theatre today. Money men assert their power, scripts get rewritten, egos have to be massaged, rivalries develop and last-minute crises intervene. Yet, by the magic that is theatre - somehow Shakespeare manages to turn the distinctly unpromising Romeo and Ethel the Pirate’s Daughter into the masterpiece that is Romeo and Juliet.
