Going backwards and forwards through the photos.

BJ was sitting on the northwest corner of Dearborn and Randolph. When I asked how long he'd been out here, he said "a long time". He said he was doing pretty good, and half-jokingly said, "but I'm still going through hell". He served in the Army years ago. He pointed to his overalls. "I got this from some firefighters. They said 'a veteran needs to be warm out here'. They also gave me some handwarmers and these gloves. He had a powerful voice and was friendly. "I'm gonna get me a cup of coffee", he said. I wish I could've joined him, because he's the kind of guy you want to hang out withWe didn't talk as long as I wanted to, but I'm sure we'll meet again.

Sriracha sauce..................Loved the socks when I saw them and thought they would be great to make another forced perspective image for Week 10 Dogwood Challenge.

Frank Shawn John Doyle had just arrived at his spot, when we started talking. It was raining, but it didn't phase him. I asked him his name and he said, "Frank Shawn John Doyle", which caught my attention. "I was adopted, but I go by my birth name too because my mom didn't abort me." He has cancer and is going to the hospital to be treated in a few days. "The doctors say I shouldn't be here (due to how advanced his condition is.)...there's a reason I'm here." He's been out here for five years and usually stays in a cheap men's hotel. He was very chatty and friendly. I gave him a couple coats and he said, "I'm gonna pass on the blessing" (and give someone the other coat)". When I asked if I could take his picture he joked, "Sure...hey, it's your camera--if I break it, it's not my fault!"

My friend Mr Sullivan on his honeymoon in Le Touquet

[Note: This was a conversation I had months before COVID-19. I'm not connecting with anyone during this time].

Gerald's been out here a long time. He grew up in the Bronzeville neighborhood and Altgeld Gardens. His Grandma and Mom raised him. His hip is bad and he can't move around much, so that's limited him ability. He said he is good in the culinary arts, can make pretty much everything and can grill up fantastic meat. If he could have anything, he'd love to cook again. During the wintertime when it's cold, he just medicates his hip. He's been on this corner for quite awhile. To someone who's depressed he'd say, "Just reach out. Talk to a minister, talk to the Salvation Army. Connect with people." He's just trying to make ends meet. "It's a long day out here." Gerald sleeps on Lower Wacker.

My 1st selfie, probably the last. Never thought I'd do it but made a exception to photograph this for the groups Weekly theme "Hats".

This was somewhere near Eski Van (the old city, destroyed 97 years earlier) as I recall.

I love the detail the awesome old N8 managed to pick out... you can see grains of sand on Lisa's skin?!

I have worked with Chelsea on many occasions - we did this fun roller skating shoot in her garden and a road near her house.

Just your average Cuban suitcase repair man working in the fresh air and a sea of red. Sometimes, I love this 28-300mm lens - 1/60th of a second at 300mm, the stabilisation has done a stirling job (though tomorrow I'll hate it again and be thinking about selling it, it's just one of those lenses).

Kevo was on the west side of Macy's, in between Washington and Randolph. He was surrounded by artwork and hundreds of colored pencils. He's been on the street for ten years. He's been to Denver, Baltimore, Chicago, and numerous other cities. His favorite mode of transportation is hitching rides with truck drivers, via Facebook. In this Facebook group you can post where you'd like to travel and if anyone is going that way and wants to help, you can grab a ride. He's quite a talented artist. His main focus is illustration, but "I can do any genre", he said. He's built computers, done construction, and a few other jobs, but his passion is art. "I want to find a job where I can be an artist", he said. Other jobs he's had he's been frustrated with, but art is the one thing that lights him up inside. "I sleep behind Macy's", he said pointing behind him. His biggest need? "I need a backpack", as he lifted a blanket revealing a tattered backpack. As I left, he grabbed a pencil and began working on his next piece...

And no wonder either.

I was walking around Ipswich when I met Mark. He was a fund of information about the town and it's surrounding areas and he was quite happy for me to capture his image. After we chatted for a whileMark shook my hand and then road off on his bicycle. This picture is no 67 in my 100 strangers project. A portrait of a weathered farmer in Cappadocia, Turkey. While enroute from Göreme to Uçhisar Castle in Cappadocia, we bumped into him. He ecstatically practiced his English while he shared a cup of tea and fresh-squeezed orange juice with me and my wife. About 30 minutes into our stay, a strong storm gust unexpectedly blew through the shop. This photo happened right before the storm gust hit. Immediately after this was taken, he ushered us out of the shop and urged us to run back to Göreme as quickly as possible. With several pounds of camera equipment strapped on, My wife and I jogged/ran most of the way back to Göreme through a thunderstorm. We dodged the brunt of the downpour by just a few seconds.

Brandon was on the northwest corner of State and Madison with his wife Nicole and their cat "Boston". They've been out here since March. Nicole's worked in the dental field and Brandon works construction. They both want to find housing so they get back in the workforce and get back on their feet. They rescued a small kitten from a park a few weeks ago and they've been caring for it on the street. "People think we're abusing the cat...they'll walk by and say 'cat abuser' or, 'I feel sorry for that cat'" (completely disregarding their condition/situation). "I don't want to be out here", Brandon said. People lump all the homeless into one category, grouping them together with drug addicts, etc. His friend Jason chimed in, "people just see a clip of the 'movie', not the whole thing."
