Something about this shot just made me hear old Johnny Cash's deep bass-baritone and I couldn't help singing 'Five Feet High and Rising' in my head. With the Mississippi River having crested here on April 27th at 18.2 ft Shephard Road and Great River Road were closed meaning we couldn't get to the classic riverfront locations like the Hoffman Ave. signal bridge. But the flip side was it did offer us some cool images like this one taken from the south side of the river over by River Park Plaza.
CPKC's train J16, the 'Shakopee' is parked on the Merriam Park Sub in front of St. Paul Union Station waiting for the crew to show up so they can knock off the brakes and shove the train west down to the UP's ex Rock Island Hoffman Ave. yard. Built in 1926 the grand structure serves Amtrak's Empire Builder twice daily which returned here in 2014 after the station had been without service since the start of Amtrak in 1971. As for the train, CP 5045 is an SD30C-ECO rebuilt from CP SD40-2 5793 originally blt. Jul. 1978. Take note of the new lettering applied by some wag on the long hood. Trailing is CP 4406 a non dynamic brake equipped GP38-2 belying its heritage as SOO 796 blt. Oct. 1977.

The heavyweights are assembling out on the heath for their annual romance contest. This guy's got a strong voice. It'll be interesting to see who comes out on top.
Wild red deer stag, Suffolk
This spectacular double horn is fitted to a 1904 French-built de Dion Bouton. I must admit to not really being a car fan but I do like looking at some aspects, including in this instance the varieties of brass fittings and hood ornaments. This was the only double horn I saw on the cars on display.
There were some 40 veteran cars parked on Lower Regent Street on Saturday, when the Royal Automobile Club held an event in conjunction with the 125th running of the London-to-Brighton Veteran Car Run, which took place yesterday, 7 November 2021.
The car on which the horn was mounted had a tourer body and a four-cylinder 20-hp engine. The registration was GIG 1904.
What surprised me was the volume on the horns - considerably louder than a modern car horn at a distance of 3m for each, one of which was bass and one more baritone or tenor.

09.06.25 - Tenor and baritone sax player Eddie "Kingfish" Manion is an original member of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, the Miami Horns, and Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul.
He first performed with Springsteen in August 1976 on the Born to Run Tour, and has toured with him many times since. In addition to his work with Springsteen, Manion’s session credits include Diana Ross, Gary U.S. Bonds, Bon Jovi, Willy DeVille, Dave Edmunds, Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector, Dion, the Allman Brothers Band, Kim Wilson, and Graham Parker.

These images are of my new Lanikai Baritone Ukulele CP2 got me for Fathers Day. It's a little late as it was a special order and was delayed. The new axe is made out of Koa wood from Hawaii, has Mother Of Pearl inlays in the fret board, is fully wired with a built in tuner and full tonal control. In addition, it has a USB port so I can plug it directly into Garage Band or Final Cut in my Mac computers, which could be great fun and a new area to be creative.
Having played guitar off and on for most of my life, this is not a new activity for me. However, I haven't played much in recent years and CP2 decided it was time for me to get my eyes off of my iMac so much and do something else for self entertainment. What a great call he made as I'm have a terrific time with it. The quality is wonderful and it has a wonderful tone - both acoustically or wired.
