is a Royal(Ball)python (Python regius), one of the most docile and gentle snakes in the world. Royal (Ball) pythons are native to West Africa. They were once worshipped as gods by the native humans because of the rodents they consumed. Royal pythons are among the smaller pythons, rarely exceeding four feet in length. Nigel has been struggling to shed his skin lately. We spent the morning trying to loosen the skin around his eyes and "neck". Two things Nigel does not love: bath time, picture time.

This lady was holding her snake over the lookout rail above Multnomah Falls (500+feet). Making sure he got a good view - she whispered something to him as his head scrolled side/side over the falls and beyond. She said he was twelve years old. Right on.

Royal (ball) python (Python regius), the Royal python of West Africa. Rarely exceeding 4 feet in length, these gentle and shy snakes are truly remarkable. They were worshipped as gods in West Africa centuries ago because of the great number of rodents they consume. They are nocturnal and their heat sensing pits can sense the heat from a small mammal from 30 feet away. Photo by Frank

Handling python regius.

I took Mokiki out of his hiding spot for a few minutes for some photos today. He's the cutest little pile of snake I've ever seen!
