Yesterday I took the Lens ball outside on our winter hike to see what I can do with it there. I am having a ball trying to come up with creative ways to use this crystal ball in photography. I find it very challenging but that is making me think about composition more. This was taken at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula in Tobermory where there is a lighthouse. At first, I "barked" at my hubby for touching the snow covered rock I was using to rest the crystal on. I didn't want him to mess up the snow. However, he inadvertently created this neat little snowball in the process that I liked in my composition. Thanks hon!!

My glass ball has a diameter of 8 cm, the focal point is about 1 cm outside the ball, as you can see in the picture. The match placed in the focal point ignited after just under 10 seconds. The paper also burned shortly afterwards.

The same ball of twine I reflected on four years ago.

Come to think of it, it could be a navel; an innie, sort of.

“Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!

There are points to be scored. There are games to be won.

And the magical things you can do with that ball

will make you the winning-est winner of all.

Fame! You'll be as famous as famous can be,

with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

Except when they don't

Because, sometimes they won't.

I'm afraid that some times

you'll play lonely games too.

Games you can't win

'cause you'll play against you.”

― Dr. Seuss

I just knew letting Moriarty have his own Paypal account would be trouble.

I have to mention that this turret is actually to be found at the rather wonderful 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum which is housed in the original WWII control tower of the RAF Thorpe Abbotts airfield in Norfolk. It, and the associated nissan huts are full of lovely US Airforce memorabilia and mangled bits of aircraft that met an unfortunate end.

Childhood in the backyard

From a recent visit to Ball's falls, Ontario. More water going over because of the recent rainfall. Beautiful in the autumn when the leaves start to change colour.

He looks small but has passed mid life in dog years (8 to be exact) we adopted him just this April. Still as playful as ever.

We're Here - It's the End of the World (as we know it)

Metro-North's "beach ball" heritage unit leaves the Big Apple behind while heading north to Poughkeepsie on a frigid winter afternoon. There appears to be three cab cars at the end of this 7-car consist.

These things are so much fun to work with. I had visions of an outdoor shot of this red bridge and waterfall near my house, but the weather is not cooperating. That forced me inside, and I am happy it did, or I wouldn't have learned about light painting with a crystal ball.
