Balanced Rock Panorama, Arches National Park, Utah, USA. This is a re-edit from one of the first night sky panoramas I tried last year. I've learned a lot about processing since then, but not enough! Hope you enjoy!
Just for perspective, Balanced Rock, the one in the middle, is 39 meters (128 feet) tall. It's easy to loose perspective in a panorama as wide as this.

Took this image at 4am in the morning at the iconic balanced rock in Arches NP. I used the light glow from Moab to backlight the tree on the right. This is 7 untracked images stacked in Sequator. Hope you all enjoy and thanks for any constructive comments.
Scanned image from August 1995. Before sunset after a thunderstorm in the monsoon season. Arches National Park.
A drop of water dancing on the end of the flower. A balance between gravity and the intrinsic surface tension of the water drop and the flower petal surface.
I like to go to the Alviso Marina County Park for sunset, located next to Alviso, a small town at the San Francisco Bay. The park has marshland and salt ponds, some of which look otherworldly.
I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Zwischen der Navajo Bridge und Lees Ferry, dem Zugangspunkt zum Colorado River, zeigt sich der Balanced Rock als massiver Koloss gleich einem riesigen zu Stein gewordenen Pilz.

Between the Navajo Bridge and Lees Ferry, the access point to the Colorado River, Balanced Rock appears as a massive colossus, like a giant mushroom turned to stone.
This perfect one-point symmetry caught my eyes when transferring at the Zürich Hauptbahnhof.
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, desaturated the image, and blended 50% of the red back in. I appreciate and welcome constructive feedback.

I went to the Pescadero State Beach on the California coast for sunset. I went a bit early and walked along the cliffs. I love the sound of the ocean!
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photos from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, then desaturated the image by 90% to get a classic look. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.

Balanced Rock is one of the more prominent rock formations in Arches National Park. Standing at a whopping 128 feet (39m) tall and weighing 3,600 tons (4 million kg), strikes an impression of amazement as it appears to defy gravity. Erosion will eventually collapse this wonder of nature.
I was roaming around at the Forum Shops at Caesars, an upscale mall in the Caesar Palace casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The mall is modeled after the old Rome at the time of Caesar, and has a fake sky. I was more interested in hunting around with my camera than shopping.
I processed a balanced, a soft, and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, then desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive feedback.

Along with The Window and Santa Elena Canyon, Balanced Rock is one of the iconic scenes in Big Bend National Park. I have posted images of it before in my photo stream.
My brother had never seen it, however, so I saved this delightful little hike for one of the dusks during our visit.
A viewer also asked about the leading lines that form nice compositional elements in a previous photograph that I posted and I wanted to take a closer look at these features on this trip.
I backed up a little so they would be more visible in this photograph. These lines are an example of "onion skin weathering" or exfoliation weathering. This weathering is common in laccoliths that cool and solidify deeper in the earth under pressure. When erosion removes the overlying rock and the pressure is released, these rocks tend to spall off in layers that resemble the thin layers of an onion.
Many geologists have wondered if the Grapevine HIlls (Balanced Rock is located in The Grapevine Hills) are a sill or a laccolith. Based on the exfoliation phenomena and the other near-by laccoliths, I would favor the laccolith explanation.
Whatever the explanation, they make an interesting compositional element.

On Saturday we went to see the dance performance of the Uzumaru Yosakoi team in San Francisco's Japantown. It was a very lively performance with lots of energy, well done!

Nature's presentation of Balanced Rock, located within Arches National Park, just seems so remarkable the way that it is perched on its base. When this July golden hour photo was taken, the temperature was still 100 F. If you look for them, you can see two couples that are on the trail. I considered removing them, but decided that they provide some perspective of size. The La Sal Mountains which are part of the Rocky Mountains can be seen at the right of the photo. Arches National Park is located near Moab, Utah in Grand County.
