During a trek in Mexico City, this bakery appeared just in time to subdue my sugar craving. I stopped by to pick up a fresh danish.

The newspaper "Nieuws van den Dag" wrote in July 1898: "The new building on the corner of Spuistraat and Raamsteeg has attracted a lot of attention for quite some time. Today all secrecy has been lifted. In this building, Mr. Fred. C. Stähle has now opened his luxury bakery".
Het Nieuws van den Dag schreef in juli 1898: "Het nieuwe gebouw op den hoek van Spuistraat en Raamsteeg heeft reeds geruimen tijd veler aandacht getrokken. Heden is alle geheimzinnigheid opgeheven. In dit perceel heeft de Heer Fred. C. Stähle heden zijn luxe-bakkerij geopend.
Het gebouw is opgetrokken door de aannemers Gebr. Nienaber, naar de plannen van den architect G. van Arkel, die tegelijk voor de geheele stoffeering en meubeleering zorgde. De eigenlijke winkel maakt een zeer aangenamen indruk, door de prachtige tegels van de plateelbakkerij Roozenburg, de sierlijke koperen etalages van Becht & Dyserinck, de fraai bewerkte deuren met geslepen glas en de prachtige toonbank van onyx."

The building and the signage are time-worn, but the folks who work here are friendly, and they have an amazing selection of breads, cookies and other edibles. It's like a trip back to the 1940's.

Every Greek meal is accompanied by some sort of bread, and with great reason! Some breads use olives, while others are traditionally served with cheese, vegetables, or soups. Many Greek dishes include olive oil, sauces, or spices that are too delicious to let go to waste, and Greek breads are perfect for dipping or soaking these up. Though, Greek bread by itself is one of the most delicious items at any table. The Greeks prefer thick, crusty bread to the lighter, sliced varieties you find in other parts of the world, and it is always served warm and fresh. Though some lighter breads such as pita are available for wraps, as side dishes, or for use in some recipes, it is still thick with a hearty crust and crispy, crunchy texture.

Celebrating my first post-Covid opportunity for travel photography – a very interesting and enjoyable trip to Uzbekistan in May 2023. Working in a large roadside bakery near the Kamchik Pass out of the Fergana Valley.

UP YPR60B is about to spot Alpha Baking on the Cragin Lead, formerly the CNW Skokie Subdivision. Also a friendly reminder that dumping is a $1,000 fine by order of Streets and San.
The Ingleside Bakery Cafe is where every visitor to Evandale usually ends up. The food is wonderful and the charm of the shop inside and in their courtyard garden is so appealing. (We can overlook the, hopefully, temporary crosses on the floor here that mark the spots for social distancing).
We enjoyed an appetising lunch and I seized the opportunity to take a photograph with no people in it (wonderful!). In normal circumstances that is simply impossible. This bakery is usually packed with people. But I loved the way the sunlight through the arched windows highlighted the old floorboards.
The building itself was constructed in 1867 as the town's Council Chambers and Courthouse and is typically Victorian. In 1987 the building was sold and established as a bakery in 1988. And the rest as they say is history. I recommend their curried scallop pies by the way.
