Shiwan is a small town located in Guangdong province, China. Made of stoneware clay they are commonly called 'mudmen' in English.
Pottery making in Shiwan stretches back thousands of years, stoneware sculpture of the realistic figures reaching its heights in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing dynasty (1644-1911). There are literally tens of thousands of kilns in Shiwan making the stoneware. Traditionally, the mudmen are mainly made by the pinch method of hand sculpting. Nowadays, slip casting and press moulding are also used. Different coloured clays are used to distinguish the skin, beard, cloth, or other details. Usually, unglazed clay represents skin. Shiwan mudmen originally were used in architecture (to sit on roofs), representing historical heroes, Buddha, or gods for temples. Later on, a smaller version of unglazed mudmen were developed, their sizes range from ¼"to 3" high miniature figurines called Shan gong, such as a man reading or fishing or old men playing chess. These miniatures are used to decorate bonsai trees and miniature landscapes.

This is sort of a back view. Tinker was very uncooperative while trying to take this picture. She was sitting by the back door with the sun coming in and I liked the way the light was on her. But Tinker always has to see what you are doing.
Rhododendron garden - the season of cherry blossom had been indeed over as Mount Dandenong has a earlier season than the trees in the plains. Hence when I got there, the trees were covered in new green leaves! However I did spotted one or two late blooms among the foliage!

walking down the dim hotel corridor, her figure half-lit by the soft glow on the wall. there’s something timeless about the way light and shadow dance together, casting her silhouette as if it holds secrets from the city beyond the hotel walls. captured in munich, this moment feels like a quiet pause amid the rush of travel.
Opposites do attract! Not just in the physical world, but also in the emotional. My husband and I are opposites in many ways...but we agree on the big (important) stuff.
