(note: This image is not 100% digital free. The collage was made in Quark, then rasterized into a jpg. I prefer to work this way, finding it easier to zip things around on one page as opposed to clicking on multiple layers in Photoshop. But that's just me, I'm a print layout person.)
The queue of last-generation hard drives waiting to be backed up. I should be able to fit them on to 2x 750GB drives.
A short break from Portugal photos...
Today my hard drive with the whole collection of photos suddenly died. Most of the file looks like on the picture above. Photos contain black cut-outs, there are also bad coloured stripes.
CrystalDiskInfo application says, that there are some reallocated (bad) sectors. Status of this hdd is "failed". Well, that happens sometimes...
PHEW! Luckily I have a backup of all my photos on another drive. I lost only a few unnecessary raw files.
Dear Flickr users, always remember to make a copy of your important documents. Have a nice weekend :-).

I am singing backup "I Think I Thought I Saw You Try"
church 1/26/14
I wanted to sing harmony/backup for the whole song, but the lead singer has his own band and has been singing for over 10 years and produces music. I didn't want to ask since I've only been singing (on stage) for 3 months. And REM doesn't have background vocals all the way through anyway.
Interesting, a camera that watch for traffic violations on the intersection is backed up by a wind-mill generator. Or, is it? Which one of the two sources (wind generator or solar panel) serves as the ‘main electricity supply’?
Notwithstanding the ‘free energy’—no violator is getting a ‘free ticket’ with such a solid backup :)
We recommend that your backup system be capable of, and configured to backup everything. Too often, we hear of clients who need to restore a piece of information from their backups, only to find that it is not contained on the backups. Some people only backup the data from their main accounting system for example, and not their other important data such as Word and Excel documents. Your backup device or service must be large enough to fit all of the data from your computer or servers.

Photos that are 'not in a set' can be managed locally on your computer. Selected photos can be deleted or moved to your sets.

Some late afternoon storms from yesterday in Roanoke,Va.
Been having some major computer problems the last two days. The hard drive in my trusty photo machine is very "blue" which ain't good and I'm trying to back up everything between crashes :-( 3rd Hard drive to go South on me in 2 months. Go figure?
This was processed on a laptop so who knows how it looks... I'll hit streams as soon as things are normal!
These inexpensive lenses perform well considering their low cost. I use them when I do not want to put my more expensive lenses in harm's way.
1. Vivitar 70-210mm Series I AI f/3.5 Zoom (67mm filter)
Use as a backup to my Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 and Fuji 50-140mm f/2.8.
2. Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8 to f/5.6 Zoom auto focus (72mm filter)
Under good lighting conditions, this lens can substitute for two of my Nikon zoom lenses (35-70mm f/2.8 and 80-200mm f/2.8).
This is my favorite lens for shooting on the beach where the lens may be damaged by sand and water.
3. Nikkor 35mm f/2 AI (52mm filter)
This was my favorite lens until I replaced it with the f/1.4 version that became my favorite lens. I use this as a backup to my f/1.4.
4. Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Series E (52mm filter)
Use this manual focus lens as a backup to my 50mm f/1.4 auto focus. It is one of three lenses in my wedding backup kit.
5. Nikkor 75-150mm Series E Zoom f/3.5 AIS (52mm filter)
Second of three lenses in my wedding backup kit.
6. Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5 to f/5.6 G AF VR (52mm filter)
Third of three lenses in my wedding backup kit.
This is also my lens-of-choice when I need to travel with just one digital SLR body and one lens. If this lens is lost, damaged, or stolen, I do not suffer a great financial hardship.
