Annison Street Back-to-Backs. In a terraced house you have neighbours on each side. In a Back to Back Terrace you also have neighbours on your back wall, and your windows are only on one side because another house is bolted onto your back. The archways that you see are for access to the Back houses. The chimney indicates how close you lived to your work, and to all the noise, heat and noxious fumes; no COMMUTING in those days
