I was hiking at Kickapoo Valley Reserve adding some sections of trail to my ...
Trail Challenge for this year.
This would be Section 3 which is considered mostly a boring trail, but there were some real surprises along the way.
My intent this year is to complete another Trail Challenge. So far, I don't think they have had anyone do this challenge back to back.
I'm sure going to try!
Back to back they are standing… Who will win?
A l’Armes.
Always trying new compositions/emotions.
Anthuriums are a fun flower and never fail to provoke a smile.
They look almost unreal! The flowers are thick, shiny, ribbed and wrinkled, while the leaves are large and glossy, which makes them so much more difficult to photograph well!
They belong to the Araceae family, which also includes callas and philodendrons.
Their genus name, Anthurium, comes from the Greek words anthos meaning "flower," and oura, meaning "tail."
Anthurium can also be called "Flamingo Flower" or "Boy Flower", both referring to the structure of the spathe and spadix.
Anthurium, the flowers are hermaphrodite, containing male and female flowers.
Very waxy, thus very shiny, thus very 'reflective', thus not easy to light correctly...
Quite a whimsical flower. So, not one. but two!
Yes I do love a challenge!
Thanx, Magda (*_*)

"Disney Magic" is a cruise ship owned and operated by the Disney Cruise Line, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. She has 11 public decks, can accommodate 2,700 passengers in 875 staterooms, and has a crew of approximately 950. The interior of Disney Magic is decorated in the Art Deco style. She has twenty bright yellow lifeboats which, along with the black, red, and white colors of the ship itself, match the colors of Mickey Mouse. This change from the standard safety orange took a waiver of international maritime rules. As with other Disney cruise ships, the ship's horn blast plays an excerpt from Disney's famous flagship tune, "When You Wish upon a Star". 984 ft

These two ex VR bulldogs run an evaluation trial trip from Goulburn to Yass and return this afternoon with these three trucks. I guess it was the grain hopper that was being tested, but have no details.
The sun struggles to pierce the smoke-laden atmosphere over two rows of back-to-back terraces* near the collieries at Fryston and Wheldale, Castleford.
* An old form of high-density housing with the homes literally back to back and all the rooms on each side facing outwards. When narrow and deep they could be gloomy and if close to a pit like this pair, often under clouds of smoke too. Once common in the industrial regions, most have been pulled down but quite a few survive. More info at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-to-back_houses

A Tear And A Smile
I would not exchange the sorrows of my heart
For the joys of the multitude.
And I would not have the tears that sadness makes
To flow from my every part turn into laughter.
I would that my life remain a tear and a smile.
A tear to purify my heart and give me understanding
Of life's secrets and hidden things.
A smile to draw me nigh to the sons of my kind and
To be a symbol of my glorification of the gods.
A tear to unite me with those of broken heart;
A smile to be a sign of my joy in existence.
I would rather that I died in yearning and longing
than that I live Weary and despairing.
I want the hunger for love and beauty to be in the
Depths of my spirit, for I have seen those who are
Satisfied the most wretched of people.
I have heard the sigh of those in yearning and Longing,
and it is sweeter than the sweetest melody.
With evening's coming the flower folds her petals
And sleeps, embracing her longing.
At morning's approach she opens her lips to meet
The sun's kiss.
The life of a flower is longing and fulfilment.
A tear and a smile.
The waters of the sea become vapor and rise and come
Together and area cloud.
And the cloud floats above the hills and valleys
Until it meets the gentle breeze, then falls weeping
To the fields and joins with brooks and rivers to Return to the sea,
its home.
The life of clouds is a parting and a meeting.
A tear and a smile.
And so does the spirit become separated from
The greater spirit to move in the world of matter
And pass as a cloud over the mountain of sorrow
And the plains of joy to meet the breeze of death
And return whence it came.
To the ocean of Love and Beauty----to God.

This gentleman was one of the volunteer tour guides at the National Trust property in Birmingham - The back to back house on Hurst St. I did ask his name but, rarely for me as I'm usually very good with names, I've forgotton it. :-(
He was a delightful man though reluctant to have his photo taken. I wasn’t sure if I should try harder to get him to let me take his picture. He told me he was always being asked to pose for the camera and didn’t feel like it on the day we visited. I did persist, gently, and he relented. We went out into the yard area of the property and this photo, one of three I took, is the result.
It was late in the afternoon and the light was dropping quickly, so I had to up the ISO to get a decent shutter speed. But the result is still pleasing. I've decided to put the sepia version into the 100 Strangers group because it was often the choice of Victorian photographers. No colour in the 19th century, only black and white. Sepia was achieved by using a 'tea' solution in the developer. (In my darkroom days we did have tea bags to give the sepia tone to the dev.!)
I like the photos and hope the viewer does too. If he gets to see them I hope he does too. :-)

- Dear brave knights can´t you see that the battle is over, I give you two options, well three actually, well four if you consider death an option too?
- Horde commander, We have taken down hundreds of your kin, if you want us dead, come and get us, we are defending our forefathers land and our unborn children, we fight for honor and if it is our time, the god in heaven have chosen so and that is my fate, but I will rather die with my sword in my hand knowing I wasn´t a coward like those who fled and those who chose to switch sides for gold and loot, we might suffer today in terrible ways, but in the end our god will reward us for doing his bidding, the right thing! Come and get us Barbarian scum!

almost 10 years before, eventually met this creative guy online, but never met face to face since then. i was very lucky to be in san francisco where he currently lives and he kindly let me stay in his cozy house.
thank you for your inspiration, Rishi!
A photograph taken circa 1935 from Cemetery Rd (A main route round the City) and looking across the City itself.
Bradford was a big industrial place and the number of chimneys visible here were but a few of the many - each billowing out their smoke.
The photo looks reminiscent of a Lowry painting. Inbetween the towering stacks can be seen the mass of back to back housing built to house the workers - some of which still survives in the Lidget Green and Great Horton areas.
Vintage film negative of an unidentified couple posed by a car. I thought they had a very distinctive look. Almost like maybe they were young, up & coming actors. He looks like he belongs in the 1930s but seller had this listed as a 1960s shot.

Now in the care of the National Trust, this is the last remaining court of back-to-back dwellings in the city of Birmingham. Each of the immaculately restored houses recreates a different period in the history of the court and recalls the lives of those who lived there.
Located at 50-54 Inge Street and 55–63 Hurst Street, the historic court seen here was opened in 1840 and has become one of Birmingham's most popular tourist attractions.
The unusual sight of back to back XPT power cars is seen here at Westons Enfield as XP2002 & XP2017 wait for the road on to the mainline. The power cars have just departed DELEC and are heading back to the XPT Center at Meeks Road running as train number HT84. Friday, 24th August 2018. (Phone Pic)

This Photograph shows restored EMD F7-A Numbers 575 and 576, painted in Lehigh Valley Colors, near the Whippany Railroad Museum in Whippany New Jersey.
These Locomotives were restored by the United Railroad Historical Society in the early 1990's for display at the New Jersey Transportation Museum, in Phillipsburg, NJ (if that museum is ever built due to the lack of funding). These locomotives are affectionately referred to as Covered Wagons because of their body shape.
I took this Photograph with my Minolta Maxxim 5000 35 mm SLR on June 12, 2002 in Whippany, New Jersey in the Morristown & Erie Rail Yard near the Whippany Railroad Museum. I scanned the Slide to create this Electronic Image.
DISCLAIMER: I took this slide, while I was just learning Photography and therefore it was very poor in Exposure, Composition and Sharpness.
