An exhausted traveller rests in the midday sun along Porto’s busy waterfront while people continue to pass by around him. During our trip through Portugal and northern Spain, we regularly came across walkers, backpackers and pilgrims taking a break wherever they could.
I was camping at a lake all last week and while it wasn’t a backpacking trip, we were out in the wilderness just far enough to have spotty to nearly non-existent cell coverage so it really felt like we were roughing it by engaging in face-to-face communication with other humans! 😆
I took a few versions of this photo one evening and couldn’t decide which one I would post. I asked several of my fellow campers which if the three they preferred and most came up with this first image. None picked my favorite.
Check out all thedifferent versions and let me know which is your favorite.

It was "just another sunrise at 2nd Beach Port St Johns". A few late night party chaps stopped for a while in their car to shoot selfies, two crayfish salesmen walked past, the receding tide crashed medium waves into the rocks where I was and at The Gap; otherwise the beach was empty and still. Nearby, across the road behind me, Amapondo Backpackers / Amapondo IBackpackers was still asleep.

The summer backpacking season has begun in Canada. I saw this fellow in the heart of downtown Toronto. He was buying a hot dog while his cat sat patiently on the sidewalk just like a well-mannered dog.
I got my camera out just in time to snap this photo of him giving his cat a bit of tender loving care while the hot dog vendor stepped out of his rig to observe.
I was juggling my bike when the backpacker picked his cat up, placed him on top of the backpack and disappeared into the crowd.
It was clear that his four-legged companion was very used to traveling on top of the backpack. He looked like he was riding on top of a double-decker bus with the man down below driving.
I'm sure having the cat along is great company on the road.
