This backpack has the look of a drawstring backpack but without the drawstring. There are no zippers to deal with but items still remain secure with front snap closure. The backpack can be expanded by undoing the side snaps. How cool is that!

For 10 years (through high school and my undergraduate career at the University of Saskatchewan, which includes a hiatus of nearly two years), I used the same backpack. Despite the tears, I continued to use it, and even used duct tape to cover some holes. Today, I finally threw it out. It has served me well. This is part of the stuff I carried around in it for my undergraduate years at the University. As my undergraduate career comes to an end this year, I won't be carrying these things around on a regular basis anymore. They included a Survival Calendar, The Bro Code, a well-used clipboard (taped together with duct tape and packing tape where/when warranted) and Harvey's coupons (when they are offered).

I recently put together a book for my dad that contained photographs of some of our many wilderness camps. I thought I would share some of those campviews and memories here.

In going back through past camp pictures it was quickly apparent that footsore311 and I have frequented the coast a great deal over the years. I also used to use my hammock much more often. Pictured here is my Kelty external frame backpack - a piece of gear that I rarely backpack with anymore, minus when stripped of the backpack and utilized as a packboard for coastal cleanup events.

Here's a few highlights from our 4 day backpacking trip into the Mt Jefferson Wilderness. The 5 mile hike into Carl Lake is lined with wild huckleberries and views of Mt. Jefferson.

From our base camp, we hiked the PCT and other trails with swimmable lakes. A true wilderness experience with only a few other campers.

The trailhead is accessed from the Jack Creek Trailhead off of Hwy 22, between Suttle Lake and Sisters (12 miles). It's about a 3 hour drive from Portland with about 5 miles of gravel.

Add this to your summer camping list.

The brand of my favorite backpacks. I typically use a Camelbak when I'm hiking and throw my camera gear inside.
