Backlit Common Blue, one of my favourite Butterflys

This is a backlit view of one of those little orb weavers that likes to build its web across open gaps in the vegetation. Unfortunately the space created by pathways in the woods are the perfect space for these guys to set up shop. Here is one I almost ran into on a mid July walk on one of my favorite woodsy pathways.

I guess if put into perspective though, it is an annoying 30 seconds or so if I run into and destroy such a web, but its hours of reconstructive work for the spider.

I took this the other day on my deck. I had the idea of backlighting the bottle with some grass in the midday sun and then making it quite high contrast to bring out the definition of the bottle and grasses. When I got to playing around with it in Elements I really liked the addition of a gradient map filter in this brassy tone.

Its pouring rain here this morning and from what I see, it could be doing it all day. Makes for one of those days where you tend to stick to indoor stuff. I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend!

Just after Christmas last year I spent an unsuccessful day looking for Red Squirrels in the Yorkshire Dales. This little Robin was a highlight of the day as it kept coming back to this wall which was beautifully backlit in the early morning.

I spotted the light in this young man's hair, but wish it had been more in focus - I had left a macro filter on! Grrrr! Still, I like it.

If I could only pick one place in CO to go for fall colors, I'm not sure where I would pick, but Kebler Pass would certainly be in the running.
