It's cherry blossom time in Portland!
This year marks the 29th anniversary of the cherry trees at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The trees were a gift to the city from the Japanese Grain Importers Association of Tokyo, according to the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center.
The cherry blossoms, whose fleeting beauty attracts thousands annually, are situated in the heart of the Japanese American Historical Plaza, located at the north end of the park. The tree-lined plaza, which was dedicated in 1990, stands as a memorial to those who were interned during WWII. It borders what used to be Nihonmachi, or Japantown. And it's a short walk from there to the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center, which hosts a permanent exhibit telling the story of the internment and its impact.

Picture of a muscadine leaf with backlighting from the sun. Taken with a 50mm F1.8 and a 3x Close-up filter. As semmaf has pointed out, it forms a fantastic heart shape...:-)
