Blurring the background gave the motion a faster, more surreal feeling. For me, it makes the picture look like that moment when you hold hands with someone and spin in a circle--everything but their face gets blurry.

The technique was difficult, and I got several other pictures with a more focused subject, but they were not as well composed or my subject was making a strange face.

3d render in bryce and photo shop

Using expandable foam covered in silicone and PVA glue and then covered in fine peat whilst still wet. A few coverings are required.
