I'd tried making a backdrop with this fancy gift wrap a few years ago, but the cardboard used then wasn't large enough to be practical. This version seems to be much better.

Model is a vintage Sun Set Malibu Christie head, with pipe cleaner curled hair, on a painted-to-match Fashionistas body.

As darkness gradually descends, the embers of a dying sunset form a golden backdrop to the Carquinez Bridge and the Training Ship Golden Bear as they settle in for the night. Eric Dugan had found a program that allows one to determine where the sun will set in relation to various localities. Using that program on his smart phone, he determined that we could get some shots of the sun setting behind the Carquinez Bridge if we positioned ourselves along the Carquinez Strait just east of the town of Crockett. We drove out to the location and scrambled down a hillside as the sun was going down to capture this shot.

The San Francisco Bay Area certainly has a lot of beautiful sunsets. Perhaps that's why I enjoy photographing sunsets so much!

This is Part 2 of an epic shoot I did with the lovely and leggy Jordan at a local park in early November 2022. She looked great and brought her high energy and beautiful natural beauty with her. Wow - I wish all shoots were this much fun. Jordan left me and my camera wanting more!

While surfing Amazon the other day, I saw this 'standing towel rack' and thought...hmmm....

This one works GREAT holding a variety of sizes of doll backdrops (up to 24"). Not only does this protect them from wrinkles, but it gives me a sleeker storage option and easy access to the backdrops when photographing dolls.

Between the Central Asian desert and the plains of Pakistan is a geographical vortex that is rich with history, natural beauty and cultural diversity. In this 'collision zone' of the Indian and Asian continents, the Pamir, Kunlun, Hindukush, Karakoram and Great Himalaya ranges are knotted together and China, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India all come within 250km of each other.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Pakistan and China jointly cut a road across these mountains, following a branch of the ancient network of trade routes called the Silk Road. In 1986 their mutual border was opened to travelers, completing an Asian 'high road' loop taking in Pakistan, China, Tibet, Nepal and north India.

The Karakoram Highway (KKH) connects the Silk Road oasis of Kashgar with Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, via the 4730m Khunjerab Pass, the semi-mythical Hunza Valley and the trading post of Gilgit.

Within reach of the KKH is some of the most mind-bending mountain scenery anywhere and, in the Karakoram, the highest concentration of lofty peaks and long glaciers in the world, some virtually at the edge of the road."

The beauty of this mountain paradise is matchless; from the soft blossoms of the apricot trees to the dark snowcapped rock monuments of Rakaposhi (7788 m.) and recently climbed Ultar (7388 m.) jabbing a vivid blue backdrop high above.

Taken: Karimabad, Central Hunza, Northern Areas of Pakistan.

Those that are familiar with my photography know I like to take sunsets from my canoe. I often include the bow and Mary's profile in silhouette. The sunset then becomes a backdrop to the paddler. This particular image has some nice colours and tones and is presented as viewed from the side of the canoe.

My favorite facades of the bunch.

Built these last year as a white backdrop for photographing another MOC, and was hoping to keep them around for more shoots. But now I need the white parts, so I took a few photos before taking these apart.

excuse the crappy white balance...just showing a friend the backdrop. We painted the backdrop and are trying to figure out what needs adjusted.

Worked on putting this together today--I've wanted an incredibly bright backdrop for doll photos for a whle, but never felt quite inspired to finally try to make one until I thrifted these fabulously ridiculous fake flowers this week. Everything else came from my craft and cardboard stashes.

It still feels a bit plain and empty, but at least I finally started it!
