Sonneratia ovata Back. Lythraceae. CN: [Malay and regional vernacular names - Gedabu, Rogam (Sarawak), Perapat (Brunei); Indonesia - Bogem (Palembang), Kedabu (Sumatra); Cambodia - Ampea, Lapea; Thailand - Lamphaen], Mangrove apple. Distribution - found scattered in widely separate localities from China and Thailand through Peninsular Malaysia, the Riau Archipelago, Java, and Borneo, to Sulawesi, the Moluccas, and Daru Island and Milne Bay in New Guinea. Habitat - mangroves, tidal creeks. The pneumatophores are erect side branches of the horizontal roots which grow just below the soil. They grow more slowly to become woody and may even reach 3 m in height, though most will be less than 50 cm tall. Its flowers are ephemeral and open at sunset, lasting for only one night; stamens fall off in the early morning. Bats and nectar-feeding birds are the pollinators. The fruits are edible, though they taste very sour. The fruit is also applied in poultices to relieve sprain. An IUCN Red List near threatened species due to diminishing landward margin where it is the most vulnerable to coastal development and human activities in many parts of its range.

I've been gone for a while, well not gone but really busy, I've mostly been filming for the movie I'm making but I got the chance to take some photos instead today.
The back porches on three-deckers on L Street in South Boston. Note the replacement railing on the top porch. It's a mismatch in color and design.

Me and Hugh Hopper
(during the recording of ADREAMOR - 1995-6…)
Hugh and I were also working with MASHU and writing songs with Lisa Lawson (Smith-Klossner) during this period (unreleased recordings, as yet), he used to come and stay at my place for a few days at a time and plenty of fine dining was had I remember. Hu kindly gave me some of his old effect pedals; used on many of the classic Soft Machine recordings.
I still have these, and use them in the studio, (much too precious to gig with now)...

Vancouver Centennials finally doing well. They had a slow start.
Below filipendula and mint.
The mint was in the garden when I moved in, not sure I could get rid of it if I wanted to. It's a wintergreen variety, tasty both fresh and dried.
I haven't bought mint in 28 years

...I was out testing the new arrival family member - Yashica RF 35. Desperate to kill the roll in an hour to see the outcome..I turned to a back alley and found some hidden treasure...not a surprise find at all but I still don't get it...
