So im back from my trip and it was fun. I ended up wasting away my day in the ocean rather then taking lots of pictures! I guess the ocean draws you in and you just cant help it. It was beautiful.

Over the last 5 years, up to 6,000 hectares (20%) of mangroves in Moreton Bay, off the Queensland coast around Brisbane, have suffered from unexplained die-back. As a tree dies, the air spaces around the roots collapse and the soil sinks, producing foul ponds in which nothing regenerates. This die-back appears to be caused by a complex mix of natural and man-induced events.
The government is currently working on “response plans” such as promoting natural colonisation where possible and looking at alternative solutions like improving drainage. This work is vital, as the mangroves provide breeding grounds for the local fishing and prawning industries and help maintain healthy foreshore areas.

While the die-back above shows photogenic reflections after recent rain, it is normally a stagnant, smelly “foul pond” beside a boardwalk in the otherwise attractive Boondall Wetlands.

CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE
A Chestnut-Backed Chickadee perches momentarily on a frosty old rose bud, giving me just enough time to capture it.
Chestnut-Backed Chickadees are the smallest and shortest tailed of all the Chickadees.

I love all birds, but Chestnut-Backed Chickadees have a special place in my heart. They are so small and yet so brave for their small size. I love their cheeky attitude and the way they seem to keep ever so busy, rarely perching more then a few seconds at a time. lol
During the winter months, I put out home made lard/peanut butter/ quick oat mixture for them and the other birds. Many birds love this treat, but the Chickadees make it very clear that they absolutely love this treat. First thing in the morning they will be flying at my back window and will sit on the window sills peaking in at me, hinting for their treats. As soon as I open the back door, they are right there and will readily land on my hand for their treat. Even if I don’t have any goodies out, I kid you not these little birds follow me around my yard. The other day I drove into our driveway, parked my truck and as soon as I opened the truck door, I had three there to greet me. One landed on the canopy of the truck, one right by my head on the top of the open truck door and the third one perched on the stairway railing.
I don’t know what else to say, except, " I love birds"! : )
" WINTER PEANUT BUTTER TREAT"
1 cup lard
1 cup peanut butter ( smooth or crunchy)
4 1/2 cups of “quick” oats
in saucepan, melt lard, turn element off and add peanut butter. Mix the peanut butter in with the lard until it is well blended.
Add the quick oats and mix well.
Let cool. Store in fridge.
Serve, via crumbling with fingers or with small spoon into small chunks and place in a shallow pan, or form into balls and squish into holes in a lard or suet style feeder.

After days of thinking that I am at the Baltic Sea the North Sea has reported back to work... waves and high water line are back.

2012 Christmas present for Randy.
6th of 7 quilts made for my family for Christmas 2012.
Pattern is Mary's Triangles with Triangles from Sally Schneider's Book - Scrap Mania. Pattern is also known as Chain of Threads or Chain of Friendship.
The back was designed to use left over yardage.
Quilt is approximately 56 1/2" x 76 1/2"
Fabrics are from Moda's brushed cotton Preppy Plaids line - purchased from CityCraft - citycraftonline.com/ & from WhipStitch - www.etsy.com/shop/WhipstitchFabrics/
The background fabrics are a mix of Kona & Moda Bella light blues & beiges purchased from The Fat Quarter Shop - www.fatquartershop.com/
I used the "smooth" side of the brushed cotton for the front of the quilt & the "brushed" side for the back & the binding. I did not wash the fabrics prior to making the quilt as I usually do with a true flannel & love the extra crinkly look the quilt has after washing.
Thread used for quilting was Aurifil 50 wt in Beige (2000) purchased from The Fat Quarter Shop - www.fatquartershop.com/
Batting used is Quilter's Dream, 100% Cotton, Request loft. Purchased from Hancock's of Paducah - www.hancocks-paducah.com/
I am in love with this batting!
Relied heavily on EQ7 to plan this quilt.
