Ancient tribes over a 1000 years ago created the Indian community. It is believed it was built here due to it's proximity to the Animas River. It is also believed that this group was an off shoot of the Chaco Culture area south of this area.

We played tourist at Aztec Ruins National Monument one day for about an hour. The ruins are quite large, consisting of over 400 rooms and kivas. Built in about 1100 AD, it was abandoned in the late 1200s.

I waited for about five minutes for some guy to move out of the last opening. Not sure what he was doing down there all that time.

The ruins were hard to photograph, as access was limited.

From my scanning project . . .

Throwback Saturday maybe?

Anyway, built this awhile ago, but completely forgot to post it! :P Thanks to my friend Carter Witz for reminding me every few months to post it. I'm not sure how I got the idea for this. One day, two of my brothers and I were building speeders together with my older brother's LEGO collection, and this happened. I guess you could call it an Aztec speeder? I thought it was kinda fun looking, although I will say it was the most fragile thing I have ever built. There wasn't much holding it together, so no swooshing abilities there haha. Anyway, hope you guys like it!

I usually post MOCs a lot sooner on my instagram, so if you're around there, check out my account! :)

I'm working on something right now, and it's coming along a lot faster than I expected. So expect a very large and super cool MOC coming this way within the next month maybe (that's not exact, however, as it may take awhile to get the lighting/pictures that I want).

Back in the character greeting area of the Lost River Delta you can find the ruins of an ancient Aztec civilization. Thought that this one was pretty creative as the pieces are three dimensional and you need to be in the correct location for them to line up properly.

Since we didn't have time to go to Chaco Canyon to see the Acestral Pueblo ruins, I decided to make a detour to Aztec ruins instead. For some reasons, my wife had a weird feeling about this place and she refused to follow me to go inside some of the rooms next to this kiva. I found them fascinating. I also have shot some black and white film there. Hopefully it would turn out well.

Used as DECORATIVE CORN and Fresh Hazelnuts, called cobnuts

Here you see Corn ’Black Aztec’ a delicious heirloom corn said to have been grown by the Aztecs 2,000 years ago. And a Zea mays 'Strawberry’, ruby-red rounded cobs produced in abundance on this highly ornamental variety.

Once dried, the kernels are simply the best variety for popping!

Flint corn (Zea mays indurata; also known as Indian corn or sometimes calico corn) is a variant of maize (var. Linnaeus), the same species as common corn.

Because each kernel has a hard outer layer to protect the soft endosperm, it is likened to being hard as flint; hence the name.
