Celebrating Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Latin American holiday, honoring and celebrating the lives of friends and family that have gone before us. The celebration honors the belief that our departed loved ones return to visit.
The full name of this orchid is (Neopabstopetalum Jimmy Lyttle x Zygopetalum Kiwi Choice) "Aztec Amulet" Quite a mouthful .... but amazingly beautiful orchid with excellent perfume as well.
Definitely one of my more unusual and colorful finds in the neighborhood. The iOS Seek app suggested this ID, and it appears to be correct. This guy is quite small, and I had no idea what I was looking at until I got it on the screen...

Just back from a week in Mexico. From 27 Celcious now to -8. This shot was of decor in the main restaurant before opening at 7am. Stunning colour and vibrancy filled the frame as I was out for a morning walk to have my first coffee.
I have always granted myself the freedom to exercise artistic license and pursue whatever brings me joy. Currently, shots from my cellphone and digital AI artwork fulfill that purpose, at least for the time being.

On the edge of the town of Aztec, New Mexico, sits a large pueblo ruin, now known as Aztec National Monument. Unlike most Native American ruins, you can drive right up to this one and walk in and among the remains.
The main reason for visiting the Farmington area was to visit my brother who lives in Aztec. Also, my sister, who lives in Florida, drove up as well. While I enjoy the area, it not really my kind of desert. Maybe because it's not "real" desert. It's not part of the Great Basin, Mojave, or Chihuahuan.
There are several Native ruins nearby, though. Chaco Canyon isn't too far to the south and the lesser know Salmon Ruins is just a few minute's drive. Then, there is Aztec Ruins. It's a small National Monument with free entry. There are a few outlaying structures and kivas, but the main ruin, seen here, is the largest. There is also a very large kiva, which has been "restored", but I found it too perfect and almost modern-looking.
Aztec Ruins was constructed by the Puebloan Indians in the 12th and 13th centuries.

A stunning first flowering of this orchid seedling, which is a complex hybrid of species originating from South America. It's parentage is Neopabstopetalum Jimmy Lyttle x Zygopetalum Kiwi Choice. The genus included in Neopabstopetalum
are Neogardneria x Pabstia x Zygopetalum. Wow things can get complicated with orchid names.
A direct rival to the Saxo, I'm really split on which I'd rather have.
I wonder what the Aztec offered over a regular 106, apart from some nice decals down the side, quite well preserved on this example. Note the buggered Heath Park dealer sticker.
