Walking bridge just north of hwy 41 in Gurnee,IL. I thought It looks like a scene you would see painted. All rights reserved. Do not use for any reason without my permission.

I also have a textured version of this shot but I liked it without texture too so I've posted both. For this version I cloned out some distracting elements and adjusted the light/color slightly.

Okay, here's story. The snowy owl was standing in the marsh about 150 feet away from me. It was so far that my 400mm f5.6 lens was way too short. Then I had to attach on 1.4x converter for reach but lost autofocus as the result. While I was shooting using live view and manual focus, the snowy took off and flew towards me!! Without auto focus, I could only take several shots (including this one) and watching. The snowy came to only 10 feet away from me, picked up something on the ground and flew away.

That was the point when I made up my mind to buy a 500mm f4 lens. :)

The quaint little town of Marine on St. Croix is only a few miles north of Stillwater. Honestly, it's like taking a step back in time.

The robins returned 3 days ago. The reason I know this precisely is because of the berry tree in front of my house. All winter, I walked by this tree daily, marvelling at the maintenance of its fruit, enduring weeks of sub-zero temperature and heavy snowfall...yet holding on, heavily laden. I also wondered why none of the birds seemed interested.

My answer came when I suddenly witnessed several hundred robins arrive en masse and proceed to spend the next 48 hours devouring every single berry on the tree. It is now bare and ready to begin its new crop. And the robins have vanished.

Having lived a previous lifetime observing suburban robins grasping worms and other insects from manicured lawns, I was unaware that robins "flocked" or even ate berries to such a degree. It is interesting to note that these robins (as is the case with the local blue jays who also flock) seem somewhat smaller than those previously observed in different settings.

Unfortunately, my camera is not suitable for truly capturing this event. Yet I have tried to give a sense of it...including the snowstorm which arrived yesterday...but in no way deterred the robins from their gluttony.

Perhaps generations of robins have made this singular tree a first stop on their northern return. To everything there is a purpose, indeed...

Ich wünsche einen guten Start in die neue Woche

I wish a good start in the new week

I wish you a clear-sighted sunday, my dear friends.

And it seems to me you lived your life

Like a candle in the wind

Never knowing who to cling to

When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you

But I was just a kid

Your candle burned out long before

Your legend ever did

As I looked out of my car window this afternoon...while waiting for my wife to finish work... there it was!

One single yellow flower growing wildly amongst the grass... This flower is about 2.5cm small...

Since I didn't have my camera with me... I had to pick it... and take it home so I could take photos of it...

It would've died in a matter of days... At least this way... I was able to preserve its beauty forever!

I hope you like it!
