You will have to zoom in on this one. One of a small flock of juvenile Bearded Tits / Reedlings. This time of year you hear then but don't often see them. The youngsters band together in gangs (you rarely see an adult) - a bit like the teenagers in the local park, although I don't think beardies drink cider.
This one seems to be looking at its own reflection, but probably isn't.
Let October's Awareness Reflect Everyday!
Just like this bird is doing... check yourself every day...
This is my special thank you to all of these group participants who worked so hard to keep spreading the message of "October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month" on flickr this month. Your photos, created images, and stories were so special to see and read this month!
~~~ Everyone deserves their own special "☆" because you are a "☆"!
Remember... this type of Awareness reflects upon our days all year long!
Love you all and heaps of hugs, Chris (aka) martian cat
Chevrolet’s arch-rival, Ford, was keenly aware of the importance of Chevrolet’s new Corvette. Henry Ford II lured former GM executive Lewis Crusoe to help develop the new car for Ford. Crusoe was joined by several others including Ford chief designer, Frank Hershey.
Franklin Quick "Frank" Hershey (1907–1997) was an American automobile designer and student of General Motors Vice President of Design Harley Earl. Hershey is known for his 1932 Peerless V-16 prototype, 1949 Cadillac tailfins, and the 1955 Ford Thunderbird. Hershey was born in Michigan, and raised in Beverly Hills and La Puente, California. He attended Occidental College where he majored in forestry. Hershey served in the Navy during World War II.
In 1952, Frank Hershey was hired to head the Ford Division studios. After several years with Packard, he went to Ford where he designed the 1953-1957 full sized Fords. According to an interview given by Hershey to James W. Howell in 1995, George Walker had been hired as the public face of Ford design. Hershey designed the landmark Ford Thunderbird, and admitted so in a 1954 interview, which created friction between Walker and Hershey.
Hershey began working on a two-passenger open vehicle with a Ford Interceptor V8 engine, based on the upcoming Ford overhead-valve V8 engine, slated for introduction in the 1954 models. Hershey based his two-seater on one of his favorite English sports cars, the Jaguar XK120. The car would have the same wheelbase, interior seating position, steering wheel angle, and pedal angles.
On 18 May, 1953, Crusoe was shown a painted clay model that closely resembled the final car after comparing it favorably with the current European trends. Henry Ford II approved the final design concept and Crusoe gave the go-ahead for production in September.
Even as the 1957 Ford Thunderbird went on sale, its future was in doubt. Frank Hershey assigned Rhys Miller and Bill Boyer to prepare facelifts for 1956 and 1957, but its long-term prospects were murkier. If the Thunderbird was indeed a promotion, as Tom Case said, there was little reason to continue it once its tooling costs were paid off.
Lewis Crusoe understood that the main impediment to Thunderbird sales, aside from price, was the car’s limited practicality. With no rear seat and almost no trunk space, it was for customers who could afford two or more cars. In the fall of 1954, he asked Boyer and crew to explore the possibility of a stretched, four-seater Thunderbird, known internally as project 195H (the H standing for the number 8, meaning the 1958 model year).
If Frank Hershey was truly the father of the Thunderbird, he was not well rewarded for his efforts. In May 1955, George Walker became vice president of Ford Styling, the first time the Ford Motor Company had such a position. Hershey had never cared for Walker’s team and being passed over in favor of Walker was a bitter pill to swallow. Shortly after Walker’s ascendancy, Hershey was gone; Dick Samsen says that McNamara fired him, but Hershey later claimed that he resigned to avoid being fired by Walker. Hershey went on to work at Kaiser Aluminum.
Shortly before Walker’s promotion, Ford established a separate Thunderbird design studio. Headed by Bill Boyer, the Thunderbird studio had its own stylists and body engineers, allowing it a surprising degree of independence from the rest of the Styling department. The studio’s first challenge was to turn the 195H four-seater concept into a production car.
Another in the Butoh series. In the context of Butoh, the surrealist ghost gains self-awareness of his status and is witnessing freedom's vastness. Alternatively a meditation of a yogin of the Drikung clan. The dynamic matrix of appearances is the expression of the creative potential of Awareness Bodhicitta, completely empty. This is represented in the image with the Sanskrit syllables of hung representing the primordial status, whipping around, with the subtly of atomic motion.
Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May by reaching millions of people in the United States through the media, local events, and screenings.(copy and paste bit done)
This is now a Global campaign and awareness is indeed needed.
My thoughts after the last year or so we have had that helped no one through anxiety or other mental health issues was to give a moment to try and create an image that was my representation of the awareness campaign in lightpainting.
The translation of the shot will be different for everyone but the message is the same!
I very much enjoyed watching this individual from a distance.
It did look at me from time to time but mostly was tracking a cheeky Robin
Many of you will know that Di, my wife, is a dual breast cancer survivor, eight years since the second diagnosis and coming up to eighteen years since the first. If detected early the prognosis is good so I urge all women to have the scans. Not only older women as Di was only 22 at the first diagnosis.
Breast Cancer Awareness plays an important part in my life, especially after going through a diagnosis and treatment myself just within the last year and a half. I was diagnosed with Triple Negative (a rare and aggressive form) Breast Cancer in May of 2012. After that, my life changed dramatically. Because it had already spread to a lymph node and it was an aggressive form, I had to undergo 20 weeks of chemotherapy, 8 weeks of that with a type considered very harsh. On top of that I had to have 6 weeks of radiation, which was 5 days a week. Yes, I lost my hair, but believe me, going through this changes your outlook and you realize how unimportant that is. I am now cancer free after one and a half years of being diagnosed. With Triple Negative Breast Cancer, they say if it's going to come back, it "usually" does within the first 2 years after diagnosis, therefore, so far so good.
MY MAIN REASON FOR TELLING YOU MY STORY NOW IS TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE YOUR MAMMOGRAMS EVERY YEAR, PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT PUT IT OFF! I had had my yearly mammogram on a regular basis since I was 30, but the year of 2012 (when I was diagnosed) was the first time I had skipped a year. If I had gone when I was supposed to one year before, I could've possibly prevented it. No, they don't always find everything. The main reason for this is the density of your breast tissue. If you have very dense tissue, you may need to go a step further and have a PEM scan or another type of test. Just ask the doctor about this. Bottomline is prevention! PLEASE GO NOW!
Imagine if you were unable to touch or kiss your newborn baby. This is an ordeal thousands of families, whose child arrives too soon, too small or too sick, are forced to go through each year. But you can help. By baking and selling cupcakes, you’ll be raising funds to help support families during what can be a very lonely and frightening time, and to provide a brighter future for their babies.
Some facts and figures:
• There is a shortage of 1,150 nurses to care for the 70,000 babies in need of specialist hospital care in England. Less than a third of units have enough nurses to meet minimum standards.
• Neonatal units are working way above recommended occupancy levels meaning there is no safety net for peaks in the number of babies being admitted to units.
• Families of babies admitted to specialist hospital care face a crippling financial strain on top of the normal costs of having a new baby.
• Over half of parents face the prospect of not being able to stay near their baby in hospital due to a shortage of overnight rooms for families.
Cake A Difference is the annual fundraising initiative from Bliss, the special care baby charity. Bliss offers guidance and information at a critical time in families' lives, funds ground-breaking research and campaigns for babies to receive the best possible level of care regardless of when and where they are born. Cake A Difference 2011 takes place from 14-20 February 2011. For more ideas on how you can support Bliss contact katiaw@bliss.org.uk
Life passes us by. We should stop and enjoy life more, but we should also be more patient.
If we don't take that extra moment, we might miss something really special.
