"Low key"
This image “Sunset in Flinders Lane” was my submission for the Artists Down Under magazine monthly theme of “The Tim Palmer Technique”.
Tim Palmer is another member of the Awake artists group, and this technique results in stylised cityscapes and can be described briefly as follows;
- Start with a city scene and stretch it out vertically to make it larger and more dramatic
- Duplicate that and give it a vertical motion blur for even more drama and assign it a blend mode.
- Experiment blending in other duplicates, possibly after running them through other filters (eg Stylize > Find Edges) or running it through a Topaz or Nik filter.
- Blend in other “ghosted” city images (maybe motion blur those as well) or simply blend in an enlarged duplicate of the main image.
- Fix anything that looks funny. Layer in any extra details.
- Add any post production toning (eg Color Lookup adjustment layers, and maybe add a vignette.

Sunrise for me can be a most magical time and certainly the best part of the day. The mistakes you made yesterday are put behind you leaving you with the prospect of opportunities to simply try and do things better. The early starts don’t worry me, most sensible people are tucked up under their 11 Tog* duvet, after all, there’s plenty of time to sleep when you make the Care Home.
Occasionally you are rewarded with conditions like these and the people who never get up for sunrise, and you know who you are, really don’t know what they’re missing. Well I guess you do now.
The inky darkness of a Lake District night was slowly receding as Crummock Water, majestically mirror still and protected with its own fluffy blanket of mist, rose from her slumbers. I find these moments quite humbling. Sunrise and sunset are the only real times when I am truly aware of the movement of our little globe around its star with the realisation of how truly insignificant we are in the wider scheme of things.
It was a blissfully peaceful start to the day, and as much as I like people, the solitude of these moments makes me appreciate the simple things in life and how much we have to be grateful for. Well, it was blissfully peaceful until a rather handsome black Labrador came and trashed the mirror. I love dogs.
I have so many ‘favourite’ pieces of music, from so many genres, but this is a special one……
*Tog clearly relates to the measurement of thermal resistance of your fluffy stuff, I’m not for a moment suggesting that you sleep with 11 other photographers, that would just be...... well………cosy, if not rather crowded..……to say the least!

» I'm still viewing some shots I made a few months ago. This 70-200 lens picks up light as no other lens. Very wicked. If I had pointed (angle) it a little bit more towards the sun it pops out a flare... every lens has it own manual, I'm still at page 1 ;)

How strange to dream of you
even when
im wide awake.
Today is my birthday :) and i dream of the aurora (last year i got this huge aurora present ) one can dream ....
Noticed this dog in a car beside me in traffic. The look in his eye the attentiveness in them got me.

Photographed at the Maine Wildlife Park. The park is home to over 30 species of Maine wildlife that cannot be returned to their natural habitats. Some are there because they were injured or orphaned, and others because they are human dependent – raised, sometimes illegally, in captivity.
Canon FD 300mm F4 L. Shot was taken through the plexiglass wall of the enclosure.
When I first arrived at the park, this animal was curled up in a ball, sound asleep in a dark part of its enclosure. I came back several times, and on one of those occasions it had moved to a sunny spot and was awake.
They are magnificent and rare animals. In 30+ years living and hiking in Maine, I have never seen one in the wild. It was a real treat to spend some time observing and photographing this one.

Yesterday I met up with Sofia and her boyfriend Erik. We had all brought some native american styled things with us and the location was just perfect (even though you can't see it in this photo..). My camera didn't really give me the colors I wanted, so I put my sunglasses in front of the lense and woop - nice effect!
