I was recently introduced to the website SHOWstudio and the work of Ruth Hogben. Hogben is a British fashion film maker who is based in London. She was the first to assist Nick Knight with both photographic and fashion film projects and has continued to work with him on a number of occasions along with many other celebrities. I especially like the films that she has worked on with Gareth Pugh as they are very dark and atmospheric. I couldn’t stop watching the one staring Crystal Renn, the music built and took you on a ride that I didn’t want to get off. A glimpse of a torso followed by a shadowed woman in double vision leans towards you with a slight crackling noise in the background. After that the sounds of crackling and a fast moving car like noise get louder and louder. Then, moments later you see a female, with her arms flexed upwards suddenly lit up with her surroundings pitch black. The way the lighting was shadowing her cheekbones and her hair was being fanned upwards was so inspirational. I noticed that a second of the fanning goes in slow motion then suddenly it goes faster as her head takes a sweep to the side to the sound of sharp music. Then it all goes quiet again as we're left with a nude woman, with the lighting shadowing her bones beautifully. It's all peaceful until you hear a demon like noise. Thats what I like about when Pugh and Hogben work together when its calm; it’s not calm for long.
After the wails there's quiet then straight after it kicks off to those sharp cut noises, merging patterns, parts of the film being repeated and layered on top of one and other, flashing lights of white, a fuzzy television effect. At this point I'm beyond excited. Then this purple mist appears with purple lightening and Renn is showing off the flowing garment and it’s been blown up. This reminded me of when Hogben also did her first film for Pugh. I also loved the way the striped armour like dress was promoted. Again, Hogben dimmed the background and lit the dress and the model which really does draw attention.

The "funky truck." This is one of three. I have filmed this truck before and it sounds great.

As you can see, this is a former AAA Trash truck. AAA Trash is a Republic division in Northern VA, and that name is fading away, fast.
